Talib Kweli admits Macklemore's audience don't know hip hop

Here's something else a lot of people probably aren't thinking about. Macklemore has completely dismantled the rules of the music industry and shattered the ceiling off while all the labels just had to stand back in awe (and disgust). He is getting bigger and bigger every day. He and ryan are worth 16M each already and they're back in the studio now.

Labels, if they're smart, will realize what Macklemore is doing and do anything they can to stop him. All labels reputation/worth are at stake right now if this indi thing doesn't get a lid put on it. Everyone else knows they can do it now too.

My point being...hip-hop labels, and magazines associated with or owned by labels might be trying to create a certain depiction of him that isn't true to bring him down and ruin his rep. Which contributes to things being said like this by respectable rappers. Not saying Kweli is in on it, but a lot of people have been saying some really similar sounding shit about him.

Another thought is that perhaps ''the insiders'' decided to shower him with Grammy's and a bit more light to try and shmooze him aka - they wanna sign him because they realize he's gonna be big $$ and those fuckers want a piece of it. As he's basically the only white rapper since Em to blow up to any noticeable degree.

But I honestly think Macklemore's idea of why he won Rap Album of the Year is much more likely; people are given ballots and asked to vote on genres they don't necessarily / almost certainly don't know about, such as hip-hop, of all ages. So if a name is more popular and known and cross-genre friendly... if they're likely to have heard of them more, they will vote for them over others. Which could explain (other than the great music and deserved wins) why Kanye has won so many. He crosses a lot of musical paths other than rap.

PS. the fact Kanye is the rapper with the most Grammy's (by quite a margin), over Em, who has sold 100+ million records and been around... 5 years longer - proves it has fuck all to do with race. The Grammy's suck the shit out of Ye's black dick regularly. It's called cross-appeal and popularity mother-fuckers. Not race.

Right On, EmBase. I think the "powers that be" play both sides of the game. Macklemore has been grinding for like 14 years now so he needed this to breakout now. Whoever runs this shit knows this is just going to push Kendrick harder for his sophomore album. I don't think Mack will sign to a label now though. He and ryan are worth 16M each, his wife is worth like 4M now. His whole team is makin money. The only thing a label could offer them is a 50M dollar record advance and the promise of the most monumental album in history.
