No one ever seems to know what they are talking about when they say "someone" > Macklemore. Yet I see no one comparing lyrics. Because once you start comparing Mack's lyrics to the rest of the shit that's out there (barring kendrick and a few others of course), it's WAY thicker in content, and more meaningful, and the rhyme structures are pretty incredible too. If they actually dug into his lyrics, that's when they'd have to start actually giving him a look. lol

What about rappers who said no to mainstream rap ? Nas completely ignored Macklemore in a new interview (but cosigned mac miller as one of the best new artists)... what about popular artists ?

People are just saying that YOUR audience defines the genre of music that you make. Ridiculous ? if you want.. but it has always been like that. Sure eminem has a lot of pop fans but dude also has a crazy amount of rap fans. To me Macklemore makes pop/rap music just like Drake makes rnb/rap music but Drake probably has way more ran fans than rnb fans and the majority of hip hop listeners would put him in a top 5 with names such as Kendrick, Cole, Big Krit, Nas, Lupe, Em, Pusha, Danny Brown, Kanye, killer mike, A$ap Rocky...

Yes but the hip-hop community is also made up of nothing more but rap listeners. Rap is still young, and it was born as an african american art form. Take a step back from that and realize that ALL humans have a strong urge to resist change. Routine and tradition help us feel like we have a more secure place in this world and that we have a good idea of what is going on around us.

Going back to what I said earlier. Rap is still YOUNG. It started as a black art form and since it is still young the humans who have been creating it thus far are scared to see it be pushed out of its normal boundaries. Over time, Macklemore listeners will make up more and more of "rap" and the community will grow to respect that. Once a majority of hip-hop likes macklemore, and I could see that happening as both he & the genre grow, then the people clinging to the old ways will be to hip-hop what christian fundamentalists are to religion. Biggots who are afraid to step out of their little box they call home. And claim that any change is blasphemy and refuse to participate in anything other than the doctrine that was handed down to them.
