Eminem's response to Stan did feel kinda unnecessary, I feel its purpose was to to try to shift some of the responsiblity for Stan & familys death.off Ems shoulders; hence the extremely reasonable tone and excuses.
Also, the "it was you, damn" at the end makes the story seem more about Em and the pressures/responsibilities of fame than about Stan and his obsession.
Think about how the song woulda turned out if the last verse was absent; Stan kills himself and his pregnant girlfriend, it makes the news, Em hears about it but doesn't realise it's Stan so he still DOESN'T reply.
Woulda been a 100x more tragic/ realistic; one obsessed fan out of a million dies but the object of their desire doesn't notice.
Just my opinion, though.
