Him being white wasn't even a talking point when I got in to him - the only thing which was a talking point was his lyricism and his themes. I didn't even think about him being white... it wasn't a thing, why the fuck would it be as a kid - you have nothing to compare it against, you don't care - you just like it or you don't like it and people don't buy things they dislike or which are just okay because the person is of the same race. This idea is completely fucking ridiculous.

There have been white rappers since, so why didn't the new children who heard Yelawolf first have that same effect on Yelawolf? How has Eminem been huge all over again despite being out since 1999? There's tons of kids growing up all over the place who never would have heard Eminem or any white rapper, but will hear Asher Roth or Yelawolf first... and we would all agree they are at least GOOD, and white... so to those kids' ears... they ARE the first good white rappers, and if that's the rule: they should be huge. They ain't. Because they make Asleep in the Bread Aisle and Radioactive, not The Slim Shady LP.

Then on the flipside - you have white and black kids now who have heard both Eminem and many other white rappers... so Eminem is NOT the only good white rapper to their years, and yet - they overwhelmingly cling and connect to Eminem's music... Eminem's new music too by the way and cling to it more than good black rappers' music. HMMMM, I wonder why... , because it's much catchier and much denser - there is something about Eminem, and the way he writes and raps and makes music. Not the fact he is white.

Dope production, and overall a kind of enjoyable listen... feels like he doesn't know who he is though. Like he's going out of his way to try and carve an identity as some kind of melodic hippie rapper or some shit.
A lot of white rappers in particular seem to struggle with a distinctive identity.
Em had one from the get-go, Yela had one right away too... but even though Asher is dope - he's reminding me of V. Ice in the way he's like... growing his hair out and tryna like, just fit an image that he's maybe not.
Or maybe that is really him but, feels like he's TRYING for an identity as apposed to it being natural.
