That's such a sad and lazy perspective to have about him or any great artist fam.

If Yela is that great, and I believe he is - then he can sell 500k on his OWN single, his singles which create a new path in hip-hop just like Em did with his own back in the day.

It's about originality and brilliance, as well as catchiness... the idea that he'd always need a feature to elevate his own name is a concept which everybody seems to feel is now true. Which is just sad and unambitious because it's like accepting an artistic failure before the game has begun - it's like accepting they can't create a sound and a moment themselves which resonates in a big way, based purely on what they have made.

Eminem has shown so many times (as have many other rappers) that this is clearly not true. Even for a song like ''Lose Yourself'' to be a hit... it seems obvious in retrospect because we're so used to the song but the song is so technical and so niche in a way. It obviously has a very broad appeal in speaking to the desire to perform and then of course it's intensely musical - and those things are what make it a hit; but it is purely a 100% authentic Eminem solo creation. You don't need to follow a format and get a ''big guest''... just be better.

Its not that "easy" though.

You need luck as well, whatever that maybe. You have to be in the right time, in the right place within the right genre otherwise you will just pass over peoples heads.
I dont know how it is in the USA but here in Sweden Hip Hop is pretty dead.
All the old Hiphop artists have droped it and is doing RnB type of music now.
Its sad really, cause a lot of them were great.

The ones pushing though in hip hop today here are females and they pretty much suck. No offence to girls rapping, but you have to be more than a girl to be good.
Sweden today seems to be too much influenced by radio. I know maybe 4-5 people that actually listen to 1 specific genre or have 1 favorite artist etc. The rest just wants to hear whats fresh on the radio.

I don't know if it's Yela's own fault, but I definitely think he should be "out there" more and be involved in more hiphop parties or whatever.

Dude he IS though.. He tours all fuckin year it seems like, Has mixtapes with Ed Sheeran, Travis Barker, Dj Paul. I feel like he has put himself in positions to be noticed but it's at the worst possible time with ZERO promotion other than himself saying it on instagram.

Ed Sheeran went platinum around the time they released that EP if I'm not mistaken so it's not exactly a bad thing. I think Yela puts himself out there as much as he can. He's always jumping at the chance to work with people for mixtapes or whatever and he's constantly touring. Since Radioactive he's done Slumdon Bridge, Heart of Dixie, Psycho White, Black Fall, Trunk Muzik Returns and working on Love Story if he's not making/putting out music he's touring or something. He does waayyyyyyy more than a lot of other artists in between album releases. SH hasn't released shit or done anything since WTOH. He's a pretty active dude.
