Amsterdam - Differences in comparison to MMLP

Amsterdam (that 2000 album that later became TMMLP), as the album title, got ''trashed out'' because Em's team wanted to do a more personal album. They introduced Slim Shady on SSLP and in 2000 they wanted to introduce Marshall Mathers to the public.

Eminem considered naming the album Amsterdam after a trip to the city shortly after the release of The Slim Shady LP, in which he and his friends engaged in heavy drug use. The "free" use of drugs Eminem observed during his time in Amsterdam greatly influenced his desire to openly discuss drug use in his music and inspired some of the content on the album.

So... I wonder what were the changes on the tracklist. Would Amsterdam have more songs like Drug Ballad, Under the Influence? It would've been less personal?

Discuss.

We wouldn't have Amsterdam 2. That's the biggest difference.

Nah but seriously, think about it. If Em named the album Amsterdam we would have never gotten the sequel that we have today. That's a mindfuck right there.

He needs to make a non personal album for once god dammit. Does He ALWAYS have to try to rap about his boring life? Make an album like 'Amsterdam.' What a great idea!

Agreed. His real life accounts of incest, rape, and murder on Relapse were boring as fuck.

Well it was a reactionary piece and he had a lot of shit to get off his chest at the time. I don't think there would of been that much of a difference tbh. The label pushed him for a radio friendly lead off single which inadvertently led to the awesome "The Way I Am", which i think we're all thankfull for

If it was titled Amsterdam then MMLP2 would be Detroit.

Simples.

I know the original MMLP had The Kids and Shit On You in place of The Real Slim Shady and Under the Influence.

Who ever said the material was different? I always thought it was just a title change.

titles of his first 3 albums represent his three personas - slim shady, marshall mathers and Eminem, if there was no Marshall Mathers LP just Amsterdam that would ruin the idea of that "trylogy" and maybe we wouldn't get Eminem Show which leads to his next album Encore and Curtain Call - compilation of his hits. Relapse and Recovery are different story, but of course we wouldn't get MMLP2, I'm just speakin' about the titles not the content of the albums, probably it wouldn't change a lot

I mean, if they decided to change the title (and it was a big change: Amsterdam to a self titled album) I wonder if the tracklist got changed, and they put more personal songs into the album.

And I also wonder if the Amsterdam tracklist would've contain more drug tracks, like Drug Ballad, The Kids, or UTI.
