The Way I Am, Like Toy Soldiers, Legacy

In a lot of ways I think of these tracks as part of a trilogy. Wondering if anyone else has contemplated this.

Hmmm no i dont see it, maybe they mirror where Em was at every era (dealing with critics , beefs and the past respectevely) but dont seem to be connected in any other way

I don't see those songs connecting enough to be considered a trilogy. They are completely different songs. One song is basically Eminem venting anger, one is talking about how stupid beef is and one tells us more about his life.

Please explain to us why you think the songs connect to each other.

Oh, this is interesting, I can see it kind of, all three pushed the boundaries of rap? TWIA was the dark second single that noone expected and it set a new standard in lyricism, like toy soldiers is the song where em pushed the boundries of flow, he said he managed to hit every single drum in that song or something? (and there are a lot of drums in that song ) and legacy was the first song he managed to carry on a whole song using the same rhyme scheme with three matching sounds?

I dunno, other than that not really, subject content is completely unrelated and they aren't similar styles per say.

but I think there's more, I would say 'Till I Collapse, Won't Back Down, Survival is an example (don't bash me for sayin' this)

musically, as fable said, is mainly how I see them connecting. not only are these three tracks themselves snapshots of every ounce of artistic prowess em had at the time, those times being 1999, 2004 and 2012, but they also each have their own thing he tried to do outside the box, i.e. writing entirely in anapestic tetrameter, memorizing that sick drum loop then spitting flawlessly over it even in a drug fueled stupor, and legacy's crazy rhyming

Like Toy Soldiers I initially thought was pretty meh, but now I enjoy it. It's catchy, the beat is good, and his rapping is aight I suppose.

how anyone can listen to encore as a complete project and come out thinking like toy soldiers is meh especially realizing what he put into it and what he was dealing with at the time is beyond me.
and thinking the track is meh now, after having seen the next five years play out, is nothing short of astonishing
