MMLP2 General Discussion

Today MMLP2 was deleted from my phone for the first time since its release. Due to limited memory I have to switch around music from my PC to my device and I'm no longer listening to MMLP2 enough for it to warrant a spot on my phone. I'm saying this in case any one else is finding themselves rarely listening to this album?

Album is still good, but the content is forgettable.
Still think he should focus more on MEANING & CONTENT rather than technique skill.
I mean his skill on Rap God is really impressive, but it could never come close to Till I Collapse.
Besides, outside from his dad, mom, Kim, and "I am the goat" Nothing else to say?…

I've stopped rating shit. I like it or I don't at this point, I'm sick of ratings, reviews, best to worst lists, everything of that nature. All of that shit takes the enjoyment out of music for me.

I think I am going to do this as well. I am just going to have 1 favorite album from an artist and be done. The rest I like and will just enjoy. Cus rating albums is driving me nuts. So I am just gonna do what I said.

ON TOPIC WISE -
STIW last verse is amazing. I love the sound and calmness of his voice on that song.

Hadn't listened to Wicked Ways in ages but it came up on my phone this morning and I listened to it. I don't like it as much as I used to but it's still enjoyable for me. I think some parts of the verses I'm not that fond of but some parts are pretty cool so it's kinda uneven for me. I prefer the 2nd verse though because his flow is really spazzing out in some parts and some of the stuff he was saying was cool as well. Good song but one of the weaker ones from MMLP 2 imo. (But that's mainly because it has a lot of competition)

I agree. It's fun sometimes, but once you start ranking everything you hear it makes music feel like some kind of measurment. Also, while I get why people would average out a rating for an album, I think an album is more than just the mean of all of its parts. Like Jay said with American Gangster. Movies aren't watched/sold by the scene. The album should be heard as a whole body of work.

Haha true. But I just don't really like the "average" thing personally. Judge the songs, judge the product as a whole...if you feel the need to obsessively rate things just rate it. Do you really need to go as far as saying "this album is an 8.47 and that is an 8.03"? I don't know. Maybe it's me haha

That shit bugs me too. You have fags like EminemBase talking about how cohesive or not cohesive certain projects are, thinking that in order to be cohesive each song has to adhere to the same style as the next one. Not every damn song has to sound the same. As long as I can listen to an album and I don't think "that sounds like it wasn't even recorded for this album" then it's "cohesive" enough for me. MMLP2 didn't have any songs that stuck out. The delivery, production style, and writing all sounded like they fit under the MMLP2 umbrella, and that's good enough for me. Hearing the exact same style in every song on an album gets boring.

Embase is right tho. MMLP2 is not cohesive or at least doesn't sound like one. SSLP MMLP TES were all cohesive albums, it doesn't mean all the songs sound the same, far from it, they just have a natural blend. And how can he go from songs like rap god and brainless to STIW and the monster?

Nah. I think all MMLP2 songs sound cohesive. They all have the same sound. Just the order of the songs are screwed up.

A lot of songs have the same vibe, which is appealing.

Again, like I said, I don't care as long as they sound like they were recorded for the album. Unlike Beautiful or Lighters, which sound too off, no songs on MMLP2 sound like they don't belong.

Lighters is simply there for HTS to have a radio single; and Beautiful fits if you buy into the 'Relapse flowing in chapters' idea.
