Any chance of atlest one Em beat? If not, then Alchemist better be on this. He is signed to Shady Records aswell
I wanted an album so rugged nobody could touch it.
Spent a million a track and went over my budget.
Now how in the fuck am I supposed to get out of debt?
I can't rap anymore, I just murdered the alphabet.

Technicality took a back seat on Recovery. From what I can ascertain, this was the most common hang up about the album.

That's not to dismiss the writing throughout the album doe. Can't be missing technicality on an audible beast such as "Almost Famous".

I don't dislike his technical skill/ability in any way shape or form. I love it (for the most part) But what i meant by my post is I would like to see him relax on the technicals a little bit for this record.

I think what youre getting at( correct me if I'm wrong) is that he should chill with the off the wall technical skill, and utilize some of the immense technical skill he already has, like the type of shit that comes naturally to him( as opposed to treading unfamiliar ground).

MMLP 2 was a bit heavy on the technical side tbh. Not saying that's bad but I would like to see him back off from all the technical shit for just a little bit and see what his writing's like then

Yes :y: I'm happy with his work now but I'm just curious what he would be like if he were to not focus so much on the technical side. He's gone pretty deep into technical rapping imo (which is fine) but to change things up why not back off on the technical side? Just a thing I've been curious about

Headlights and Guts Over Fear were both pretty heavy on rhyming

I think there was a lot of crazy technical skill being shown off, but not always to the benefit of the music. For example, he can demonstrate immense technical skill without pushing himself to do it on songs like "The Warning" or "Psycho."

But other times, he does this "stop and go" type thing to hit every syllable perfectly and it can sound kind of rigid at times. I think thats where people hear the "chopiness" at points. Ground hog day is technically impressive but it's also musically organic sounding, like if someone were to take the beat and rap as masterfully as possible thats what it would sound like.

I'm not one of those people who thought MMLP2's flows were super choppy or whatever, fuck that shit. But I think in his effort to hit every chord/key/whatever on the beats he made parts of some songs sound rigid and not as pleasing to the ears. Like it's cool he was able to make the words work that way, but I don't think it was always to the benefit of the music.

But I think at times Em's skating a thin line between being stylistically unique and forcing/making certain lines rather awkward/rigid. Maybe that's just me.

Yeah I feel you lol. I do think it works against the music on a pure enjoyment level sometimes, at least for me. I know it's all intentional, that's why I hate when people talk about it being forced as if none of it was completely on purpose.

It's very rare that it gets in the way of anything for me, I would just like him to do more shit like groundhog day, Baby, Evil Twin, etc. in terms of flow. I'll be happy with it regardless as long as the lyrics/voice are strong though.

doe

Parts of the first verse have more rhymes and please don't tell me you're not aware of the immense rhyming that follows right after those lines and continues extensively until the end of the 2nd verse
