There are many themes that run throughout the film, to give you a few:
*
Self Pity - How it's clear he looks down on himself due to being white and although trying hard to fit in, it's clear he isn't like everyone else and something he has to face head on rather then work around.
*
Lack of Parents - Having no father around and loosing his mother in the struggle of poverty, the film picks up on how he has no one there for him and has to rely on himself and his desperation for a better life to make it. This ties in with the Abandonment theme where from family to girl friends, he finds himself alone.
*
Misogyny - A theme that runs throughout the film is the clear misogyny. Women are treated in the typical hip hop manner, and every main female in the plan lives up to this, his girlfriend sleeping around, his mother stuck in the posistion she is, he ex lying to her ... which is why his little sister stands out and can also symbolize a new generation being a new change.
What's funny is how he also longs for a normal relationship throughout the film which is why he is so annoyed catching wink with alex, and how he is embarressed when finding her at his home. Afterall, if he really cared little for women, he wouldn't be bothered wether or not they know his living state. But this could also bring up a theme of hope with how he doesn't want people to know how he lives, he knows this isn't the life for him and he knows he can break out of it ..
There's a few themes to get you started, good luck with it and let me know how you do.
