Sunday Discussion: Hip Hop, Art Or Poison?

Postby ,-,'-{Bar}-',-, » Feb 25th, '07, 19:10

CNN posed this question to millions across the country all this week. Out of 10594 votes, 51% voted Hip Hop as a poison(Link). CNN had some specials talking about the negatives of Hip Hop, while PBS aired a documentary talking about homophobia, violence, sexism and stereotypes in Hip Hop. I was watching CNN later on and they asked is Hip Hop an insidious art form, or a new trendy phenomenon. Is everyone putting Hip Hop on blast because of they have nothing better to report, or is Hip Hop really that terrible?

Hip Hop has given various individuals a chance to come from poverty to become rich legally. People that could have ended up in jail or worse dead, have become huge figures in the entertainment world. These millionaires are able to help other people out of horrible conditions and allow them to make something of themselves.

i agree with alot of the people who say its posion, it is.

but people forget hip hop is the style but there are meny different types.

you have a rapper, who makes club songs to sell

you got MC's who dont care about selling, they do the music for the muic for themselves for the fans

you got hip hop artists who sorta do both ya know

i mena not every artist is poinson but the fact people like cashis and creewater are on the same label and getting more attention than obie trice is a good example, nez isnt poison, rakim isnt ect. but young jeezy ect are all poinson not for people, but for hip hop and the music, the people think hip hop fans enjoy these people infecting the music with poison, we dont we fucking hate the guys who are killing hip hop a much as politicians or any of them

the people who say 100% of hip hop is poison, arent listenign to te right music, id love to get those guys together on a tv show n inerview them and play them rakim nas ect and see what they got to say about it

I disagree - As an entertainer you are an idol to other people and you hold responsibilities for what your actions can result in. Every job has responsibilities and if you try to be ignorant then there are consequences. Firemen have the responsibility to put out burning houses. Accountants have the responsibility of making sure that their job is done accurately and honestly. Entertainers must entertain, but also be aware of who their target audience is - if kids look up to you and hold you in high regard then you as an entertainer better look at the sort of things you are doing, and whether they have positive effects or negative.
