Prince Charles Suggests Banning McDonald's

Postby Emz1Soldier4Life » Feb 28th, '07, 20:27

AP
LONDON (Feb. 28) - Prince Charles suggested Tuesday on a visit to the United Arab Emirates that banning McDonald's fast food was crucial for improving people's diets, a British news agency reported.

Charles made the comments while visiting the Imperial College London Diabetes Center in Abu Dhabi for the launch of a public health campaign, The Press Association reported.

"Have you got anywhere with McDonald's? Have you tried getting it banned? That's the key," Charles was quoted as asking one of the center's nutritionists.

A McDonald's spokesman, Nick Hindle, called the remark disappointing. He said other members of the royal family "have probably got a more up-to-date picture of us," alluding to reports that Charles' son, Prince Harry, was spotted eating a chicken burger at McDonald's in 2005.

The Oak Brook, Illinois-based McDonald's Corp. took steps last year to display nutrition facts on its packaging and vary its menu to counter charges that its food is unhealthy and contributes to obesity. There are 25 McDonald's franchises in the United Arab Emirates.

Charles, who is first in line to the British throne, is an active advocate of organic food and in 1986 set up a farm on his Highgrove Estate that does not use artificial pesticides or fertilizers.

The prince was in the United Arab Emirates with his wife, Camilla, as part of a tour of Gulf countries.

The United Arab Emirates has the world's second highest number of diabetes cases per capita, with more than 20 percent of those aged 20 to 79 already diagnosed with the illness, while 40 percent of the population are at risk.

lmao...very!, I don't really care if they ban it or not I don't really eat it atall, however it shouldn't only be McDonald's because there are so many fast food chains that add to global obesity/health problems. So action should be taken against more than just one.

Fast food needs to be regulated.

It obviously contains too much fat for normal people. And the way the system works with the costs of restaraunts and healthy good food being sky-high most are forced to go to fast-foods, by commercialism. Just needs some dosage regulations: theres no need to up-size meals every year.

Just look at how coca cola is consumed: 10 years ago, the 330ml bottle wouldve been enough ... now they make them 600 ml... and its normal for one person to drink a bottle... its just how it happens. needs control.

Well sometimes u gotta help them lol. I mean i personally dont care about fat people, most of them just count as a lazy person, the way i see them. But sometimes its the countries problem too.

I remember growing up on of those post soviet blocks were we had a hokey ring, a football feild and pull up bars in every block, never remember there being any fat kids. Because they build sports equipement instead of mcdonalds..

get me?..

I think fat people should pay higher taxes. The government expediture on obesity and CVD is outrageous, especially in Australia. Make them pay taxes for the wasted money on their health which could be spent on other things such as education and transport. :smoking:
