Hip Hop Album Sales: Week Ending 4/8/2007

Postby Global » Apr 12th, '07, 00:09

Unfortunately in hip hop, this is the week of the sales dive. Maybe it has something to do with Paul Wall and Timbaland both debuting so strong. Paul Wall's sophmore album Get Money, Stay True debuted at #8, with 92k sold. Three spots up is Timbo, whose Shock Value sold an impressive 138k this week.
Young Buck manages to stay in the top 20 as he slides from #3 to #17, with Buck the World moving another 55k, bringing the album's total to 196k. MIMS isn't so lucky, as he drops to #21, with Music Is My Savior only managing to bring in 45k this week.
Things get even heavier as Lil Flip drops from #15 to #57. His two-disc album I Need Mine ends up bringing in 18k this week (61k total). Redman gets it even worse as the brick city MC drops from #13 to #66, moving only 16k this week, giving the rap vet a modest total of 61k.
Crime Mob, Prodigy and 8-Ball and MJG are also bottoming out. Crime Mob's Hated On Mostly seems to have an appropriate title as the album spot goes from #64 to #115, with only 9k on the week. One spot below is Prodigy of Mobb Deep, with 9k of his own for the week for his album/mixtape Return of the Mac (36k total overall). 8-Ball and MJG drops from #50 to #108, pulling in only 9k this week.
Almost completely dropping off the charts this week are The Game and Snoop Dogg, whose albums both tied for the #200 spot at 5k on the week. Game's Doctor's Advocate has sold 904k to date, while Snoop's Blue Carpet Treatment has sold 840k.
Though Akon's Konvicted did break double platinum with 74k on the week, things aren't doing too well on the R&B side of things - except for Beyonce. The re-release of B'Day was very clearly a great move, as the album shot up from #69 to #6! The album, in its 31st week on the charts, sold an astonishing 125k, bringing Beyonce to nearly 2.5 million.
Less fortunate are Musiq Soulchild and Macy Gray, whose albums both took a dive this week. Musiq Soulchild's Luvanmusiq dropped 20 spots to #40, selling 28k this week (266k overall), while Macy Gray's
Big made a severe drop from #39 to #107, selling 10k and bringing her total to 30k.

this shits horrible. record sales are down like a motherfucker and its sad. YB should be platinum by now. his CD's crazy. its not the death of g-unit, its the death of hip-hop in general. its being run by stupid ass songs like "this is why im hot" and "lean wit it rock wit it." its fuckin retarded. we need good songs, lyrical songs with good production. we need G.A.G.E., Young Buck, Lloyd Banks, Eminem, Nas, Ludacris, Dr. Dre, Royce Da 5' 9", the old 50 Cent(GRODT and before days), and other GOOD artists to release albums like crazy to try and save rap. i know it also has to do with promotion but its mostly the shitty songs. how do u expect hip-hop to keep growing and get better with artists like Paul Wall, MIMS, Dem Franchize Boyz, Mike Jones, D4L, and other shitty artists?

the answer: IT WON'T!!

The track is on some battle, and raps who wants some static
Cause I don’t really think that the fact that I’m Slim matters
A plaque and platinum status is whack if I’m not the badest.\"
