im not 100% sure, but this is what i found.

The duo's last album together was Don't Sweat The Technique (1992). Its single "Know The Ledge" was the theme song to the urban feature film, Juice. The song was among their most popular hits. During the recording of that album, both members of the duo expressed an interest in creating solo albums. However, Eric B. refused to sign the label's release contract, fearful that Rakim would abandon him. This led to a long and messy court battle involving the two musicians and their former label MCA.

but that was more about them 2 Vs there label...but wether something happened between them from wanting to do solo albums and the court thing, i dont know

Sadly this happens to most rap duo's :(

Guru & Dj Premier (formally known as Gangstarr) had huge history together in the ninetees, they split too.

I aint heard from Erick B though, he kind of faded away, i guess he still gets some profits to survive so good for him.

To be really honest though, Rakim's "the master" album, with Dj Premier on many of the beats, was much hotta and more evolved than his previous records, so its coo with me... as long as RAzilla spits the fire on the microphone.

It's hard to knock something that's become classic, like Eric B and Rakim "together" on their four albums. But I agree with Aspirine, Rakim was the undisputable star of this duo, he was the one that was irreplaceable. Rakim on any beat is still better than 95% of other artists shit. And it's not a diss to Eric B to say some of Dj Premiers beats worked better with Rakims later stuff, as Premo is one of the best producers around bar none!!
