REal Hip-hop, I'd stay clear of the Gangsta Shit, even though I used to love it myself, it's not what hip-hop is about. I'd stay away from pimpin niggaz and bitches type shit too. I'd give them something that sounds great, and a real Intelligent emcee blazin out the lyrics. My choice would be...Rakim 1st obviously, and some others following in line ( in no particular order), Canibus (writes intelligent lyrical songs), Nas, virtually personifies a real hip-hop emcee, Eminems non-single-type stuff that they won't have heard (Don't need to elaborate on this forum as to why Eminem), Big Pun, lyrically Bigger than his huge frame, Common, in the same league as Nas when it comes to being the definition of a real hip-hop rapper, amongst many others man, but always make sure that the artist is lyrically at the top of the game, because that's what anti-rap music activists need to hear, what we hear and love, the modern-day poets, bringing poetry to another level for the 21st century.
Key albums thay should hear:
Nas - Illmatic, Stillmatic, Gods Son
Rakim - Paid In Full, The Master, 18th Letter
Canibus - Rip The Jacker
Big Pun - Capital Punishment, Yeeeah Baby
Eminem - Infinite, MMLP, SSLP, TES
Common - Resurrection (Song on it called "I Used To Love Her", one of the best hip-hop songs of all time)
And for new artists to check out, I would say Apathy, Pappoose and an English rapper called Plan B, very lyrical and all three are taking hip-hop in the direction it needs to be going.
