Akon Apologizes to Teen

Singer Akon, in hot water for doing a sexually explicit dance on stage with a 14-year old girl has apologized to the young girl and anyone else offended by the display, according to AM New York.
The singer, whose hits include "Don't Matter," "I Wanna Love You," featuring Snoop Dogg, and "Smack That," featuring Eminem was videotaped simulating sex with a girl invited on stage as a part of his act during an April 12 concert in Trinidad. It was revealed that the child was 14 after the video was circulated on the internet.
Verizon has pulled out as a sponsor of his tour with Gwen Stefani, for whom he wrote the song, "Sweet Escape,"resulting from the incident. In a statement released Wednesday, to The Associated Press, Akon said he was sorry for the incident and that he didn't know the girl was underage.
"I want to sincerely apologize for the embarrassment and any pain I've caused to the young woman who joined me on stage, her family, and the Trinidad community for the events at my concert," Akon said. "It was never my intention to embarrass or take advantage of my fans in any way, especially those under the age of 18. That is why we tried to make sure that the club did not admit anyone under 18...some how, that standard was not met."
Akon's latest album, Konvicted, has sold more than 1 million copies in the United States.

Verizon has pulled sponsership for the tour due to akon's behavior

Gwen needed to seek other financial agreements to continue her tour. Akon has been released from the Tour Contract.


So it kinda sux for him but it wasn't even his concert that lost there money backing.. it was gwen's .. anyway we'll see what all goes down,, thats all i've heard so far.

Whether she was 14 or 30 she went to a concert, she didn't buy a ticket to be dry humped on stage! It doesn't matter whether she should've been there or not in the first place, he went too far, period. Now I'm not generally a prude, I don't mind performers making sexually provocative gestures or motions on stage, or even feeling up chicks if they're into it, some groupie's are, that's fine but what he did didn't belong at a large venue concert but a live porn show.

She did NOT put herself in any position that should in any way have indicated to her that this was going to happen, she was told it was a contest, that she'd win a "trip to Africa," it wasn't until she had won and was on stage she was told Akon was Africa, how the hell is a 14-year-old girl who's on stage in front of hordes of people gonna have the sense to squirm her way out of situation like that? She didn't know this was going to happen, she didn't ask for it, just like a woman who's wearing a short skirt isn't asking to get raped.

No, I don't think it would've been an public issue if she'd been 19 for anyone else than the girl herself maybe, since, believe it or not, most women aren't dying to get dry humped on a stage in front of a crowd but that isn't the point, the point is that Akon fucked up, at least he's owning up to it which does deserve a tiny shred of respect.

Curious - how can you compare getting raped because you walked out your front door, and being put in a sexually uncomfortable setting because you went to an overaged club when you were 14? Walking out your front door is not illegal or breaking any laws. The two aren't even close to being the same situation. The girl put HERSELF in that situation. Maybe she wasn't directly asking to be dry humped, but venues are 18+ for a reason. Akon had no way of knowing she was underaged; and plenty of 18+ women go to concerts and act promiscuously on stage with celebrities. If you think most women in this situation wouldn't have wanted to be dry humped, apparently you don't know many groupies.
