My definition of "catchy" is not the same as the pop-chart definition. Catchy as in the songs that just posses my mind for a while, that i can play again and again.
That's called classic, not catchy. Classic because they're timeless, you've listened to them over and over and they are embedded in your brain. Catchy is when you listen to something once or twice and you can't get it out of your head, as I said Rah has a few songs like that but not many.
His intonation is exactly what didnt appeal to me in the first place.
See, different strokes for different folks man, all a matter of taste. You'll probably never be a fan of Canibus and me never a fan of Doom. They have very different styles, Doom is laid back and Canibus isn't. But, they are also very similar, both are rap lyricists. Both rap about shit nobody else does, Canibus with the science and techology jargon, and Doom with those quirky wordplays and thinks he says. Both are higly respected on an underground level, and greatly underappreciated in the mainstream. Both deserve a listen by everybody, and hopefully you and myself are helping with that right now.
Rakim - know the ledge, pass the hand grenade, the punisher, casualties of war... then theres relax with pep, stay a while, 18th letter, ...
Love those tracks man. Yeah you're right about the first ones in that, especially Know The Ledge, what an awesome track that is. I wish he would blaze with those type of tracks more often, that's almost 15 years ago.
Ra has flipped almost all kinds of songs well, he doesnt get as low as doing self indulgent comedy tracks .. it prolly wont suit his image... other than that he did had delivered in all styles, many of those styles prolly originated whit him too lol, since he was a great influence.
Nah, he has 2 or 3 styles he uses at the most. If you listen to a Rakim album almost every song sound the same, similar beats, similar flow, the whole tone is almost the same. I found the same with Doom, and that is what I meant by boring, kinda monotanous. Okay, they're consistent, and are always the same, but with that comes a little boredom.
What do u mean by heavy shit? screaming every word on a record? ..
No I just mean not being laid back on every track. I dunno man, maybe you like these artists more because you smoke cannibus, that laid back doped-up jazzy style doesn't get my nipples hard, lol.
As far as doom goes, he uses beats that suit concept, Some albums have musical themes, some have deliberately abstract beats for atmosphere.... its called art. As i said, just coz the beats are laidback ... does not make it boring. And no not all of them are laidback, "venomous villain", "vaudeville villain" albums were fast paced and angrier and more passionate in sound than the rest.
"it's called Art", lol. You say that like you think I don't know what it is. It's all art man, all creativity, as with fine art and painting, there are many different art styles and artists who paint their pictures on contrasting themes with similar skills but different approach and techniques. And in the end it's all down to what the viewer or listener perceives as "better" or "boring". It's back to matter of oipinion and taste, and we have a diffference in ours, let's leave it at that.
