Basis of Being a Rapper

Postby Tash8 » Jul 19th, '07, 19:20

Yo,

Thanks to IceAxe for the book, but I thought I should summarize some stuff for you guys, so you don't have to go through the whole thing.

I start to think but then I sink
into the paper like I was ink
when i'm writing i'm trapped in between the line,
I escape wehn I finish the rhyme

^ true meaning of being a rapper

once people get a peep at this i'll post more

How about...

Pistol play, ricochet, see where the victim lay
Slumped over bleeding, JFK
H-play till your chest lay, fade
Imma ride till my death do you rep that way

Aint that rap? Why does it have to have some big ass peotic meaning to be rap?

Does it? Seems like irony since 15 syllable lines and looped beats dont make up for rhythm and poetry.

Rap is about flow, metaphors, word play and often meaning. Not some snap dance song that everyone tries to imitate. I hope soon that snap dance songs die out. In my opinion, there should be more of deciphering lyrics and less blunt antics.

Kojack... listen to Nas or 2Pac and tell me rap can't/shouldn't be like poetry with music.

It was a nice start to a song but I can't really judge because it's so short bro

I mean its decent but it's like 6 lines. I could have written that. It has meaning yes, but that doesn't mean it's an impeccable piece. Maybe if you had more of the song we could have seen that it's at a much higher level.

Tash, what was the point to this thread man, I`m not sure, was it supposed to be for a discussion or just to inspire people for what they're writing. Please clarify.

To the guys saying that it's nothing special, you are missing the point. It's not supposed to be lyrically awesome, it's just a play on words by a great rapper using metaphors to dramatise his writing. Sometimes it's the simpler things that are the most impressive. It's a nice part you posted Tash, but Rakim has so many better ones and has loads of metaphors on his rap skills and his skills as an emcee.

J-Roc, don't be stupid comparing Rakim to Tash, and props to Tash for not accepting that.

4d cause i'm tired of seeing people saying that r&b is rap, and this just proves what rap truly is. And the reason i posted that is because that's what a true rapper is.
