Music in the Future

Postby SajN » Aug 23rd, '07, 11:20

Ok. This is something I just got in my mind:

Todays artists are selling more less than before because of the downloading of music from the Internet. I was thinking that in the future maybe it will be pointless to be an artist. Not everyone make music for money, but you need money to make a new album. I guess in the future the technology, and all that hacking/leaking stuff will be better. So artists will not earn very much money because people are downloading from the net. Before millions of CDs were sold. Today the sells have fallen down with nearly 40%.

What do you guys think?

Its not like that I think "Yes, its going to happen, no doubt". It was just a thought I had, so I wanted to share.

Maybe I could have said more, but because of my english, I dont know how to explain, etc...

Music always was and always will be a form of creativity. Matter of fact, if artists weren't paid to make music, they'd make even better music, since all the trashy artists that want to leech of people will drop the guitars and the microphones, the only ones left will be those that want to make music, because they have emotions they want to put in creative form. In essence, people that search for profit in everything are basically slaves since they are bitter because "they aren't paid enough for their talent", the talent and "effort" they greatly overrate like like a person with a slave mentality would do.

You're right. I agree with you. But to make an album you need money. Because if you dont sell (Like Em when he made Infinite, which sold less than the 1000 copies that were made), you will get broke. The same with the label. Then you can't make more albums, and yeah .. I hope you see my point?
(Did I explain very bad now?)
But I agree. You are totally right.

Interesting idea Asp, makes sense too 'cos of course creative people will continue to express themselves, whether profit's involved or not. But if that happens music might be reduced to Live performances, because that is the only real way an Artist can distribute music without making a loss. You can't make a thousand cd's to distribute to people if they're free. Not many are gonna do that. But, I suppose if you make it free on the net, you don't need cd's, and can gain audiences for your live shows that way, and it's cooler 'cos the money goes right to the artist.

As for this topic, I don't believe the music business is making much of a loss at all. Because fans of certain musicians will always buy their favourite artists CD or DVD, yes i`m speaking for myself but i`m pretty sure it's true for most people. People who won't buy cd's are people who wouldn't have bought them before internet piracy. They're the people who would have copied a friends cd onto a cassette tape, or burned a copy on cd for himself with his p.c. Piracy has always been available in many forms, and yeah the internet is a piracy free for all. But, I will always buy the CD's that I would of bought before I had a p.c. Just to have the original product, better sound, inlay cards and to support the Artist. I will not buy the Cd's of people I would not normally buy cd's from, but I might download it and check it out for free, if it's good or even great, then i'll be buying the CD just to have the proper version. If it's not I won't buy it, but i'd have got it for free, either way the Artist doesn't lose anything. If most people are doing that, which I think they are, how is the industry making a loss?

Its true for me too. But many of the people today only download, and not buys CD's. Here in Norway most of the Rap/Hip-Hop/Pop/RnB fans don't usually buy CD's. I do just like what you do. The only CD's I used to buy before, was Eminem's and D12's. And I will continue with that (IF they release a new album). Other great rappers CD's is not easy to get her. Like Royce 5'9 and Rakim etc. Actually when I made this topic I was thinking a bit about Norway, without knowing it. I just realised it now.

You'll always buy you favorite rapper's album... Well maybe not always but you will but you'll not riks your money with another rapper you don't know so you get the album by downloading it.

I saw in the news that Elton John (I AIN'T GAY) released an album on the internet and didn't release them in CD cases. They still get leaked but money isn't used in making the albums.
