Alright, here goes a rant by Steve Spag....

I've been holding this in for a long time (mainly because I'm making a track about the state of hip-hop right now), but Soulja Boy is EXACTLY what's wrong with Rap music. I don't care who I offend by saying that, but it's the truth. A REAL emcee spits about what's real to him. This kid just made a quick name for himself with no lyrics. I know people that could spit way better than that kid. I don't understand how someone like him can get famous over-night, yet people who have been busting their ass for years can't make a name for themselves. He's not the only one, but he's the one that stands out the most right now. It bugs me, but there's not a whole lot to do about it other than let time go by and watch him fade away while someone else gets a shot, 'cause that's pretty much how it is right now.

Wow that felt good to get off my chest....

So in closing: Fuck Soulja Boy :)

The fact that he appeared on Ellen dancing like a monkey trying to teach people his dance says enough.

I wished death on soulja boy till I spent a day with a friend who played it repeatedly, done the ridiculous done and by the end of the day ... I realised thatno it's not hip hop, just a fun dance track. A passing fad of a dance that doesn't deserve hate .... but if it does become the Christmas number 1, I'm moving underground.

Ha ha, I know im just giving you a hard time. It's a good song if you take it as a catchy beat to dance to. If thats what you consider hip-hop though...damn... :smoking:

Whether or not that song is in actuality not rap or hip-hop, the song seems to let people let that song represent black culture. People say that this is "our" music or that this is what "we" like. And I say "fuck you" to those who are coming from a culture that includes hip-hop and bumpin that soulja boy shit.

i argued this case with somebody recently. i said recent "rappers" have no talent. she said, "wuts wrong with making a song for entertainment?" i said there's nothing wrong with it, there are songs i like that are surely for entertainment purposes, but how do you explain every song being the same? one or two "club songs" are fine, no problem. but now every song is pointless and sounds like the one before it. music is supposed to evolve, not resest itself to climb the latter again.
