it's because they're famous. it's the same as with some massive plane/car crashes or anything else, that causes more casualties. people die every day in car crashes and no one announces the national mourning, but when 20 people die in bus crash, it's like "OH GOD, THEY DIED!!!", 3 days of mourning and flags down. it's weird.
