Version 2 Changes
Before getting into specifics, here are a few general things. Firstly, MLG game types are always a work in progress. New strategies, discoveries and constant testing change the way we play the game and our settings will reflect this evolution. Secondly, the assault rifle and shotgun have been removed from v2 gametypes. We felt that both weapons were too powerful. The assault rifle diminished skilled shooting and overpowered the Carbine/BR even at mid-range. The shotgun had no equivalent at short range and, especially on a map such Guardian, was completely overpowering. The Mauler remains in the game and should turn out to be an important weapon to control.
Onto the details. Remember these are the highlights. Players will find more changes as they get in and play these game types.
Overall Changes
* A custom overshield has been added to The Pit and gives players 3x shield which is similar to the Halo 2 shield, increasing default Halo 3 power.
* Shield recharge rate is now 90%. The maps are relatively large and after testing for some time we found that too often players would seek cover after taking fire and recharge their shields before enemies had time to pursue an advantage. By making the shield recharge rate slower, the game takes on a faster pace.
* Damage Modifier upped to 110%. This makes the Battle Rifle slightly more powerful (one fewer bullet, 11 instead of 12, to kill) and the Carbine is now seven instead of eight shots (with a headshot) to kill. This change also means that less shots are required before or after a melee in order to kill. Again, this alteration makes the game faster-paced and encourages skilled shooting.
* Player speed increased to 110%. This speeds up the game play and makes targets harder to hit because strafing is slightly faster.
* Melee damage dropped to 50% when carrying the flag or ball. Holding the flag or ball and meleeing is now only slightly more powerful than a regular melee.
