I have both, well one is my brother's. Anyways, the slim one is a lot lighter than the old one. TV out is also really cool. The only real disadvantage is the lack of the infrared sensor, but that was useleses for me anyways.

new psp slims has double the ram of the fat psps so load times are cut dramatically in most games,im buying the new psp slim ASAP
