Nas - The Cross (Writing Credits)

Postby ,-,'-{Bar}-',-, » Jan 20th, '08, 21:04

firstly they really misleading and to an extent annoy me.

now ive learned about it, so for example, if Sean wrote

"every feeling we have"

and then Paul told him he should say

"every feeling we had"

Paul then has to be added in the credits even if its something as small as this.

but it still annoys me, coz take the the nas song "the cross" in the credits eminem co-wrote that song along with Nasir jones and Jeff Bass, and its annoying not knowing how big a influence these guys had in the songs.

the cross is a good example coz lyrically this song is extreme and it just annoys me that you dont actually know how much a influence eminem had, was it as somehting as small as a 2 word change in a line, or was it as big as eminem had the idea and wrote the chorus...you get what i mean ?

coz it had to be substantial for nas to share royalties with him, if you dont know, when your listed as a co-writer then you got to get share of the songwriter royalties

anyone every thought about this ?

i aint knocking nas's ability but that songs lyrics to have somehting different to them ya know.

i also looked at other credits and eminem (on slim shady LP) always has two guys M. Bass and J. Bass writting his tracks with him, gives the thought that basically he rhymes and the other guys create it into songs :p lol

really though id love to get a breakdown fo the process were these other people get involved in the song writing

Well in the long interview Em had about his career, he said he never really was in the studio with Nas for that song, he just sent him the beat. So I don't know, but I don't think Em contributed much. Still cant be 100% sure...

Engulfed in a feast while you starve at his feet
He toss you the least little portion of a piece
To the floor and expect you to rejoice when you eat" - Brother Ali

i thin there is more to it, as looking around and that is says

The Cross

Songwriters - Nasir Jones, Marshall Mathers & Jeff Bass
Production - Eminem
Performers - Nas

Ps - Some Useless Infor - On their work with Eminem Mark and Jeff Bass are credited as F.B.T. Productions. Although Interscope marketed Dr. Dre as Eminem's major producer in order to boost his credibility as a white rapper in the hip-hop community, the Bass Brothers have in fact produced more individual tracks for the rapper than Dre. Jeff Bass performed the "Public Service Announcements" that introduce both The Slim Shady LP and The Marshall Mathers LP.

i love useless info like that lol :y:

but its actually really relevent, like you said those guy are in the studio with eminem alot so most likely these sayed to him sometimes "you should say this" or "add in a FUCK YOU in the background of this vocal" so technically they helped write the track so thats why they are in the writing credits.

but i dont get it with eminem being credited in the cross, coz as weve heard he was never in the studio with nas so its strange

True. Although a little thing i notuced, when ever it comes to songwriting credits and such, they use there "Real"names, but when it comes to there production/Performing, they use there "Stage" names.
*shrugs* who knows, maybe Em chatted to nas on msn regarding some lyrics :smoking:
