nas getting dropped

Postby ,-,'-{Bar}-',-, » Jan 24th, '08, 13:03

Nas's refusal to change the name of his new album, "Ni***" may lead to him getting the ax at Def Jam, Mediatakeout.com is reporting.

According to the report, a label insider told the website: "There is no way that we can put out an album with that title. Many retailers have already told us - flat out - that they won't carry [an album with that title] ... Nas' last album [Hip Hop Is Dead] sold pretty well, but not well enough for the headache he's causing [the label]."

The insider goes on to say that this decision may be in a matter of days.

"If Nas doesn't change his mind, he'll be dropped. And he doesn't have to much time to come to that realization.

if he gets dropped through this it sucks...big time.

the man has the right to name his album whatever he wants, aint dropping him over something like this again freedom of speech or some shit

also i think there's somehting bigger here think of it, Jay-z came out and sayed he was all for nas releasing the album under that title, then couple of months later he steps down as president and, what a week later, nas is gonni get dropped ?

nas n jay-z should start a label release the album n make sure it sells like 5x platinum and then laugh at def jam lmao

It sucks if he's gonna get dropped.. It's not a big deal if the album is named N****, almost every black rappers says this word in their lyrics, so it's almost the same.

That's just retarded. Agreed, start up a new label and laugh in their faces as it sells like hotcakes.

Its not whats on the album tho, its what is on the cover. N***** is an offensive word and people are going to object to seeing that on the shop shelves. Also how would it look on tv/radio??? - "That was xyz from the N***** album"

But where will I be able to purchase nigger =[. NO RASIST. But ya, just showing the album name should be changed. He's only naming it this to push people's buttons and for attention. Theres no reason to name the album this. He has every right to yes. But why?

he has the right to make an album like that, sure, but no stores will want to sell it... so his label wont let him release an album that wont be allowed to be sold.. what he should do is make a double name for it...

or if he gets dropped then he should sign to shady so my top 2 rappers could collab!

he's got the right to name it like that.. but on the other hand.. you know, i bet it'd be unconfortable for many people to buy it. after all that 'n' term is kinda abusive and it's caused so much pain and controversy in the past. and probably still does. it's obvious Def Jam doesn't want any trouble..

Yea I agree with yoshi. Hope he changes the name to something less insulting to some people.

lots of rappers say stuff in tracks that are offencsive

eminem insults every race and person you could think of in his tracks and videos

50 cent insults lots of women with his videos and tracks

i dont get why this is any different, infact it isnt even as bad as what other rappers do, you know for a fact nas aint goin to insult black people in his tracks, id see the point if this was a stupid kid like soulja boy or a white rapper then i would understand, but this is nas we are talking about the guy knows the ins and outs of the subject and knows how to handle it and put it across right...

i mean the guy names an album "hip hop is dead" and hip hop heads loved it and the only people that complained is the people who were responsible for it

could you imagine somebody askin wut CD your listenin to and you say "Nas' new album, 'N***a'." shit would be hilarious.
but in all seriousness,
i dont think Nas actually has a point behind naming it that. i think he's doing it just to be bold and cross lines, which kinda makes him look like an ass like alotta rappers *cough* Eminem *cough*. he knew damn well the company would have a cow over it, so he's bascially doin this shit on purpose. i personally dont care wut he calls it. but he better not be surprised when he gets booted off the label. but wuts prolly gonna happen is at the last minute he's gonna change the name, then everybody on the planet is gonna buy it to smite the company.

i never seen/heard him insulting black people, i'm not talkin about that old tape thing. Eminem is kind of exception plus he releases on a totally different label.

50 cent insults lots of women with his videos and tracks

you really wanna compare Nas to Fiddy? :p

it is different in fact. he's an artist, who's 100% capable of making a dope album and finding a suitable name for it. i'd never expect him to call his album "Nas" or "Nasir" [like "Curtis", so comparing Nas to 50 is a big mistake]. and calling it 'N...' looks a bit like seeking attention. he knew it's gonna be controversial, because - like it or not - it IS a controversial issue, especially now, after so many debates about rap music.

but hes insulted every other race, women, gays and more.

im not comparing the artists, im comparing the "offence" this album would cost, to the offence 50 cent has cost through his music

it is different in fact. he's an artist, who's 100% capable of making a dope album and finding a suitable name for it. i'd never expect him to call his album "Nas" or "Nasir" [like "Curtis", so comparing Nas to 50 is a big mistake]. and calling it 'N...' looks a bit like seeking attention. he knew it's gonna be controversial, because - like it or not - it IS a controversial issue, especially now, after so many debates about rap music.

well its a debate that could never be solved, people could say "hip hop is dead" was a controversial title for attention seeking, but id say it was genious because it cut all the bullshit and told it straight what has happened to the music. and yeh it may be uncumfortable buying the album for people who aint black, but really you walk into the store pick up the album and go buy it...if they havent got it in stock you basically say "have you got nas's new album i cant find it on the shop floor" you dont need to start screaming N..... at the top of your lungs  also i mean any shop worth there bread are goin to know what nas's new album is called so i dont think there gonni say "whats the name of it" is they do you say its called N..... i aint goni feel racists coz im asking to buy a nas album named a controversial title.

he stated in a interview he wants to call it that to take the power from the word....something that is by no means a selfish or marketing reason...
