EA: Sony saving the industry from disaster

Just last week Sony Defense Force reported that Sony not only managed to make a profit last quarter, but the PS3 was also outselling the Xbox 360. To add more insult to injury for Microsoft and Nintendo, EA is reporting in their latest quarterly results that Sony is the reason for the vast majority of their earnings.
Q3 FY08 Sony/EA Revenue:
PS2: $301M
PS3 $102M
PSP $74M

Total Sony Revenue: $477M
How did Sony’s competitors manage in comparison? Not well. Thankfully Sony exists in order to keep the industry alive, otherwise we would be witnessing a gaming depression larger than what was exhibited back in the 80’s when Atari released E.T. for their gaming system.

What say you Reggie? Not your problem? When third party software sales are absolutely dismal despite record hardware sales for both the Wii and DS, it is your problem. Apparently, people are picking up the GameCu….err, Wii just to play Wii Sports and couldn’t care less about more prominent franchise titles, and especially third party efforts which do not sell on the system. This could spark a long-term trend that will curtail support for Nintendo platforms and lead to stifled sales. But again, Reggie, not your problem? Nintendo’s still at least making money themselves, right? Well, you’re certainly doing significantly better than our last place contender…

comparing, 3 gaming machines to 2 and saying they made the company more money is stupid, take away the last gen PS2 and Nintendo hammered there asses badly, add in the last gen PS2 and obviously sony are going to win coz PS2 has been on sale for years and there are millions all over the world..


very pointless imo, and very misleading, i mean is EA the whole industry ? what bout capcom, konami, Squaresoft, Namco, Sega ect. arent they in the industry aswell ?

thats not total revenue from all the years,its like late 2007/2008, ps2 made more money than ps3,360 and wii in the same time period, and its further proof sony are using ps2 to take out the wii and that the ps2 is now well over the 100million sales mark and will make history as the psone did,also proof the ps3 is now profitable, it just got interesting.

not really,how do you figure that,are you saying facts are stupid?,thats what sony has out, if the gamecube wasent such a failure Nintendo would have 3 machines to, this is what the company's have put forward, doesn't matter how many machines, their racking in the cash. How much a console sells doesn't make it better than the rest, the Wii sells a lot cause it has a new type of controller which makes everyone go crazy, it's cheap and it's a family console but the PS3 and Xbox 360 are better technologically, they are more advanced. One of the things that matters the most for me are the games. Xbox 360 has been leading that with it's exclusives, I don't know if it will stay in the lead, PS3 is better in graphics by a very small proportion and Wii sells more and has the new gaming controller which is really good (though I don't like it).

comparing sales of somehting that has been on sale for...what 7+ years, to something that has been on sale for 2 years...is completely stupid

also this doesnt prove sony is using PS2 to take out anything, it proves that the millions of people that own the last gen PS2 and dont have enough money to buy a PS3 are buying games made by EA thats it.

also since this is all about cash, the revenue on PS2 is alot higher because production and distrubution are a hell of alot cheaper witch equals higher profit, also the new releases from EA on PS2 are very watered down and basically not changed since the previous releases (talking about fifa ect.) meaning that creating the game for the PS2 didnt cost that much either coz obviously they focused on the next gen consoles, add he normal £35-£40 price tag and you got a shit load of profit.

i still say those figures as pointless though
