why do teens insist on doing drugs and alcohol

i am 16 and, yet , i cannot accept the fact taht there are so many stupid teens out there. let me tell u this remarkable story that happened at my school. cheerleaders were suspended for rest of season, not only for drinking, but for taking pictures of it and putting it on their myspaces. it made the news, and hte traffic outside my school was hell. my point is though, we learned in , well, before 1st grade that smoking cigerettes and weed and other drugs and drinking alcohol harms our bodies. yet, with every year, the rate in teen alcoholism and teens who use drugs increases. now, i am not going to blame the hip hop industry for htis or the media, even though they display those things in a positive light constantly and ridiculously, but why are teens doing this . u guys are going to blast me for this, ur going to say grow up, smoke a joint, but , quite frankly, i will never touch the stuff

teens think that it is cool and relieves stress, here i nyc 12-13 year olds join gangs, i no many kids that do that, 1 day at my skool, i found a cigarette bud in the toilet

are u kidding me, thats it, i walk into the restroom all the time and see kids smoking, its ridiculous, first anorexia, then obesity, now this, lets redo prohibition

its social
i use to do pot coz i felt like being out of it and sit back and chill and adhance my senses
i stoped that and the only reason is because of the army
i drink because it is social and things r better then normal if ur drunk
i guess its a part of growing up but i could stop anytime i want

um.. i spent my 17 yrs long life without drugs, alcohol and cigarettes and i don't feel that it was bad for me :happy:

for me it's rahter pathetic when i'm on the party and see my friends puking after 2 hours and then lying on the floor through whole night.. lol.
i'm not against alcohol and cigarettes, i just want ppl to stat thinking

and what about drugs.. um.. everyone has right to live his life in other way, and if he thinks that drugs are the right way, so what can i do? my classmate rolls blunts on geography lessons, but that's his business.. :whistle:

i'm not going to go around saying "oh no, please, stop it, it's bad for you" - i'm not that stupid..

I am with you on this one. My opinion is they want to fit in, or just try something new( knowing it is wrong). Most kids nowadays have access to drugs as well as alcohol. Part of it is the stores not taking on their part in finding out who is really purchasing the substance or drink. Also, many people are curious to see how it is. Its a reasonable answer, out of curiousty. But at the same time it is absolutely unacceptable to involve yourself in something this bad, especially when you have heard all the speeches and everything about drinking and drugs.
The decision is up to you now take advantage of it.

i neva did drugs or deank alcohol either but i think they do these stuff it is out of curiosity cause when u grow up u feel like tryin stuff even if it will harm u and sometimes just to fit in and look cool infront of ur friends

I drink alcohol often and i did weed many times. Yeah i am harming my body but if you start it it's hard to stop.

part of it is that they have finally reached an age when they are startin to feel more like adults and dont condider themselves kids anymore, and it makes them feel older, and plus its peer pressure to fit in with the "in" crowd, and also just experimentation
