Maybe because its been 60 years? and because the moon is still a really as large ass area? Maybe because in 60 years the flag couldve fallen and been covered in cosmic dust?

But thats not even the main point. The point is that if Americans wouldn't land on the moon the USSR would find out first thing, not to mention that USSR had a program to land on the moon as well, obviously lost time with restarting the program after bad luck. The landing on the moon was SYMBOLIC an arms race. The moon is literally useless for people to land on it over and over again and waste the kind of money on the program that made two of the largest empires of the 20th century break into cold sweat.

actually i believe if you watch the documentary officials from the USSR space program say they cancelled the mission because they realized they wouldnt make it.

the space suits didnt have enough lead coating to block the large amounts of radiation in space

Nope they canceled the mission because

1)They spent trillions on Building the first rocket, that failed and exploded and the second one wasnt made on time
2)after the US sent their mission there was literally no point in going there afterall.
3)Chrustchiev had more expectations then result because he was a complete idiot.

It was possible, but it was a race, so it was about making things in time.
