When People Say Rap Is Trash

Sometimes I hear people saying to me, right after I've told them that I like rap, that rap is trash, they just rap about girls, cars, bling bling etc. An there is nothing special with rap, no lyrical content, just empty beats, and talking over the beat. There is no talent.. etc..
Inside of my head I get mad, because they only see what the TV shows.
And I even try to talk to them, telling them aboout real rap, and the lyrical content and that.. but they never care. They're only like "ROCK IS BEST!! RAP SUCKS, NO MATTER WHAT!!" and that pisses me off. Most of the people who have told me they hate rap because of those things^^^ are rock fans..

I can't leave them saying things about rap.. I just have this thing in my head, that I have to tell them the real thing..

I wonder, how do you guys deal with a situation like that ?

when i know that there is a chance that we could have a decent discussion, i discuss. explain that it's not just a black guy whith chains and his pants down who throws money round and slaps bitches on MTV. that actually hip-hop is a culture, a lifestyle, way of life. that it's got its history and its legends. but when i know that someone won't think about what i say, let alone change his mind.. i say "yeah, whatever" and walk away.

I also tell those people to listen to Rakim, Nas, and those good ol' artists. But they say: 2Pac is the only one who can rap..
That's shit, there's lot of good rappers.. I bet they say 2Pac because he got so much attention and that.. And they only know about him, even if they haven't listened to him..

That's what I also do. Most people won't probably even listen to me..
There's a girl in my class who made me pissed on her. She does what I've told on the first post. And sometimes when I am walking in front of here, she says something like: "Rock got a story, unlike rap, isn't it right, SajN(my name)".. Then I get so mad, I just want to kill her (yes, I do, the way she says it is the reason lol).. But I give her an angr look before I walk away..

it doesn't matter wut you tell them. you can't sway their opinions about it. their first impressions of rap are the songs played over the radio. so if you say, "nuh uh!! listen to Tupac or Nas!!", and they decide to listen they already have a biased opinion on it. so they'll either pick it apart by pointing out every possible thing wrong about it. or just straight up say it sucks just to keep from being proved wrong.

it's pointless to argue with them about it. there's two people, those who like rap and those who don't. you can't persuade either group to like or dislike it. and the first group has two people in itself, those who like good rap and those who like shitty rap. once again, you can't persuade either group that on is better than the other. so you might as well stop fighting for it cuz it's pointless. and as long as you like wut you like does it really matter?
