When People Say Rap Is Trash

I wonder, how do you guys deal with a situation like that ?

First you should examine what type of 'rock' music she listens to. If she listens to pop bands like Fall Out Boy, Panic! At The Disco, and Avril Lavigne, then she has no valid opinion about popular rap music. Secondly, be an individual, listen to what suits you, rather than others. And you'll do fine.

it doesn't matter wut you tell them. you can't sway their opinions about it. their first impressions of rap are the songs played over the radio. so if you say, "nuh uh!! listen to Tupac or Nas!!", and they decide to listen they already have a biased opinion on it. so they'll either pick it apart by pointing out every possible thing wrong about it. or just straight up say it sucks just to keep from being proved wrong.

it's pointless to argue with them about it. there's two people, those who like rap and those who don't. you can't persuade either group to like or dislike it. and the first group has two people in itself, those who like good rap and those who like shitty rap. once again, you can't persuade either group that on is better than the other. so you might as well stop fighting for it cuz it's pointless. and as long as you like wut you like does it really matter?

All of this happens to me too. I always try to tell people that the rap I listen is not the rap they see on TV and the rap they imagine. My class at school only know Eminem and now 2Pac just cause I've mentioned him quite a few times. Then they say, "all rappers get shot" and I say, "you know who'll be shot next?you bitch!" but they still don't get the real point. Some say it's shit while others don't give a shit. At least the boys in my class listen different music from Rap (me) to Rock, Techno, House, Deathmetal, Powermetal, Heavymetal, pop... It's funny actually that a friend of mine who listens to Deathmetal likes some Eminem songs like White America and Rain Man.

I got my older sister into rap but then she went directly into R&B and rap such as Soulja Boy and some gay guys so I tell her to listen to Lil' Wayne that she'll probably like it but she never does.

I try with other people telling them that Rap is more than what they think but not many actually understand me.

Thats exactly the reason i also listen to Percy Sledge, BB king, Erick Clapton and the Beatles.. because if u can understand how people love other genres urself u can get the same thing back.

And the teenage fanboys of ANY genre are usually just too young and stupid to really love music enough to care about other genres have to offer and how each genre influences each other.

i get the same thing with a bunch of my buddies..
most of my friends like rock.. and i do to..but i definitly like rap most.
im kinda picky when it comes to other genres so i can understand how they feel... cuz honestly 90% of the rap you hear on the radio sucks major balls..

I personally never ever listen to the radio... so usually what i do though is play the really good tracks that you dont hear on the radio (like some good old infinite.. mostly anything thats not to gangsta... cuz thats what most of my friends hate the most about rap..is that wanna be gansta shit)
ill play the tracks when im givin my friends rides places in my car (cuz they know its my car and they cant change the cd so they're basically forced into listening)
some of my friends over time have kinda grown into rap because of it..
they realized theres a huge difference between GOOD hip-hop, and whats played on the radio...

but i do definitly get the odd ignorant asswhipe that just bashes rap without even giving it a chance..
and that really really annoys me...

and i also dont understand when heavy metal fans can bash rappers for "talking over the beat" when almost all heavy metal artists scream into the microphone...and dont get me wrong.. i like SOME heavy metal.. but how they can bash rap and say that metal is better?? when i listen to music i dont wanna hear someone screaming into the mic.. you cant even hear wtf they are saying.. when i listen to metal all i hear is "scream scream yell scream" it often reminds me of that "nails on a chalkboard" sound...

anyways im done rambling off my thoughts...

I do agree with you on the metal part.
As I said before, I respect every music genre, even if I don't understand how screaming in the mic can be better than someone "talking over a beat"..
