Need Help With Counter Strike Source

Anyone here who knows about Counter Strike Source?

I have a little problem, I just downloaded and never played it in my life before. But when I tried to go into a server I couldn't
It said it's no people playing in the server or I did have another version , so I had to restart the game
But when I make a server myself I can play, but my friend can't see it in the servers.
Also, when I try to connect to the friend thing, it says it failed...
My friend have the same problem...

Anyone can help?

Hey, Ive been playing this game for nearly 3 years now. Did you buy the offical game or the dodgy version. On the dodgy versions I know for a fact you can't play on Steam servers but still can play on servers not supported by steam.

u need a cd key for a legal account.. steam is very hard to get into downlaoded

once when u install the game. and once when u use the steam. hmmm...u sure u tried to play on a server for counter strike source. You know that if the server was for cs 1.6 it won't work. Wut does it say when it fails? "Your client differs from the servers" ?

Yes, it says someting like that.. but those servers are Source...............I think

First...make sure the servers are for Source.
Then if it says "Your client differs from the server one." it means that you're using another type of counter strike source. It used to happen to me too on CS 1.6. U know that there are a few versions of Cs 1.6. With some of them you can't play over the net. Some of them are made just to play with bots. Some of them are just to play online....they don't work with bots.
And why are u playing CS Source? CS 1.6 is the most popular one (at least over here ).
