Who Has The Most Complex Lyricism In Rap?

Postby Angevilish » Sep 18th, '08, 20:24

I don't truly give this much thinking, It instantly hits me with one single name, Rakim...And before you assume I'm a Stan, dick rider or whatever, let me say this clear, Rakim is not even in my Top 5 fave rappers...I'm just speaking with reason in here.
I might think of Big L, as a possible strong contender however. In many songs by Big L, he doubtlessly have proven himself to be capable of competing with Rakim.
honorable mentions:Royce da 5'9, Eminem (95-2002 era), Masta Ace, Mos Def, Lupe, Papoose, Nas, & few others I might have forgotten!

any thoughts on this? share your opinions, 7 don't care about what I, or anyone else think, I wouldn't care if you claim that 50 has complex shit! it would make you sound like an extraordinary moron, and a complete ignorant when it comes to lyricism, but I wouldn't care...:D lol

Don't worry, you won't be called a groupie or stan. That's only if you named Eminem. :p

What you said sounded pretty good Rakim, Big L can't really think of anymore right now.

^kinda perfect list...However Big L had also impressive rhyme schemes & insane multies in fast flow patterns. & Rakim's main point of strength, is multies, taking in consideration the fact that he was the first rapper to use multi-syllabic rhyming technique.

Put It On (his most successful commercially)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iBrzEVJwYFg

Ebonics (one of his best)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G9VjmK7_b9Q

98 Freestyle (the greatest freestyle of all times, though many argue that it wasn't real (written & not really freestyled), but still it was fuckin' phenomenal)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ToTRFS-6eUs

btw, sadly he died at a very young age (22, or 23 I'm not sure), & many rap fans and rappers stated that Big L would have reached some honorable status if he had the time. Eminem himself mentioned this too.
Big L released two albums only, The Lifestyles of The Poor and The Dangerous, & The Big Picture.

thank u, mr :flower:

back to the topic.. i'd say guys from Jurassic 5:

melancholy mundane so I tame the hot flame
big rings, fat chains, and y'all quest for the same
no name, use fame, strictly new to the thang
we stay true to the game and never bring it to shame
we tight like dreadlocks or red fox and ripple
we pass participles, and smash the artist in you
the saga continues, this I won't get into
'cause there ain't enough bars to hold the drama that we been through

from the top of my head, but still.. Jurassic is the shit. :8)

I would say:
Rakim, Nas, Lupe Fiasco, Eminem, Talib Kweli, Moss Deff, Common, Big L, Biggie, Jedi Mind Tricks, Aesop Rock, Immortal Technique, Mf Doom, A Tribe Called Quest, Royce Da 5'9", Ghostface, Krs one, Wu tang clan, Tupac ( some songs ) and some I'm forgetting now...

I wonder why people suggested Immortal Technique as a lyrical beast, or lyrically dope
His lyrics are quite simple actually, he rarely uses multies, or internal rhymes, or any complex flow patterns at all..He's got some dope metaphors, punches (& punches are usually included in freestyle/battling rap more than it's included in lyricism) & some occasional wordplaying. Don't get me wrong, Immortal technique is on my top 5 rappers. But I think that its his content & his delivery are what made him supreme, sort of like Tupac (Tupac's lyricism was way far from impressive, actually it was kinda weak).
