9-25-08 Akon Signs UK Rapper Sway

Akon continues to expand his Kon Live label by recently signing UK rap star Sway. Akon told the BBC news that he signed Sway after hearing him rhyme over one of his own songs. Sway is known for beating out 50 Cent and The Game in 2005 in the hip hop category at the Music Of Black Orgin Awards. Sway later won the Best UK hip Hop award at the 2006 BET Awards.

"[He’s] a true legend in his own creation” Akon said, adding, “I’ve never seen an artist attack every issue and make it so relevant to his surroundings the way that Sway does. He will truly be an icon for all UK rappers some day.” Sway will work with Pharrell and The Neptunes for his new album "Signature." “They really like what I'm doing,” Sway said. “What they've offered me is a platform to blow up in America."

not sure what to think.... il let you know after i hear the album i guess

same but no matter what i got a shitload of respect for sway and akon for this happening, finally a uk rapper on a label that can dominate worldwide and lets hope sway takes advantage, as long as he keeps true to his UK style and promotes the music in a good light then all the best coz i think this is the mark for Uk rappers finally getting as big a US rapper.

he'll have to change his style a bit, otherwise i think he'll flop in usa....but yeh that doesnt have to be a bad thing

This could be great if Sway can keep on track, cos i admit the lead songs aren't really Sway at his best but hopefully the rest of the album wil compensate plus Sway is one of the few artists that can keep a balance between uk hip-hop and grime so lets wait and see

i believe he'll alter his style to fit american music but I also see him keeping that accent and style of rap, but i'm pretty sure his musical concepts and features will change...

i actually hope is has 1 of each, for the fact t-pain on a hook can be ok at times and itll be a big commercial succes, and also sway would fucking kill lil wayne on track and again it would be a commercial succes to boost UK profile, swya just got keep true and sick
