What does it take to have a "classic" album

Postby <Stiiccy> » Sep 27th, '08, 01:23

What does it take to have a "classic" album:

Now to this disscussion, what does it really take to make a classic?

we have all heard classic's before...
but is there really a formula to doing this?

in my opinion yes...

What you need this:

1) A hot single - Whatever kind of song it is...people have to remember the song...An incredible hook is needed for this...this doesnt have to be the best song on the album, usually its the catchiest

2) Staying true - Whatever got you fans in the first place always keep that shit, just take it to a whole other level

3) Being different - Don't do some shit that has been done a million times..just look at these mainstream faggots...even the underground has become shitty because everone is afraid to be different..

4) Production/Mixing - the album has to be perfect, therefore every song needs to sound like you recorded in Jesus's studio...no one wants to hear some shitty quality...

5) Promotion - you need promotion to not only get your album out, but just to put your name in peoples minds...even if they dont buy your tape atleast they got your name

your thoughts?

a classic is simply an album that is considered great by the hip hop nation regardless of time, so in thirty years hip hoppers still say it's an amazing album.

agree, add that to what i was saying and it basically is it...

that's why one of my fav albums ever The Cool, which is easily in my top 5 now a days, i dont consider a classic, because it didn't do much for hip hop besides the fact that a lyrical artist can still sell.

"It debuted as the #1 rap record and remained there for 9 weeks. It has been certified Gold by the RIAA.[1]"

gold is pretty good, seeing how Nas' who's one of the biggest lyrical rappers might not break gold.

But you're right, Gold is still good. :y:

yea, well i wouldn't have expected to debute #1 overall, Lupe is big but not THAT big, but my friends like Lupe and understand he's smart rap and they kind of respect him for it and i'm talking about my friends who are haters of rap.

i wouldn't consider Lupe big at all. "Superstar" came on the radio every now and again but did the general public really know who he was? no. if you didn't take the time to find out then you didn't know. he doesn't have the publicity of Wayne, Eminem, 50 Cent, Soulja Boy and all them.

dude, maybe not where you live but his song was getting played a lot around here, i heard it a few times at dances... sure he's not eminem nor 50 nor wayne but he's certainly pretty big considering he's not the type of rapper that can influence the listeners of Soulja Boys.

I agree with u sticcy on 1-3, then i'd say pure skill, just sick rhyming, and on memorable song that is innovative and different, something new to the game. Thats my opinion . great topic kid.
