Well.

Since when do we judge an artist on what we think their future material will be like?

We judge artists by what has been released.

BIG released two classics with two albums.

I mean, come on... Eminem doesn't even think he's better than Big.

you can argue that Royce isn't top 10 worthy. but he does deserve better than 40.

don't care what eminem thinks, he's humble of course he's not going to say he's better than blah and blah, even though he might really think he is, plus you can never enjoy your music as much as someone else can. connecting with yourself isn't as great as somebody connecting with you.

Biggie released 2 classic albums, eminem released 3. Eminem outsold him, eminem is better in most aspects defined by the word lyrical, eminem has the intangibles that i felt biggie never had, and let's face it, eminem is white, it was a lot easier for biggie to be successful than it was for eminem (something that is overlooked a lot)

Eminem had three classics? Okay... would you mind naming them?

Eminem outsold him... so sales has anything to do with skill? Is that what you're saying?

Eminem is white... so white america embraced him... and he gained popularity because the majority of hip hop consumers are white as well.

yes i can name them, slim shady lp, marshall mathers lp, the eminem show ( dont care if you dont think so, cause imo biggie has 0 classics, i'm talking about what eminem fans perceive as classics and what biggie fans perceive as classics.)

sales believe it or not have a lot to do with skill, depending on who your audience is, soulja boy isn't skilled you think? you think it's easy as fuck to create a catchy song and put it on youtube by yourself and promote yourself thru youtube to get signed? he skills might not mean much but they are skills...

again with the comment white america embraced him, we forget the fact that before he got popular NO ONE embraced him, but hey now that he's popular because of him being white let's forget that he struggled 20 times as much because he was white.

Okay, okay.

In saying that Biggie has 0 classics, I can see you will not be swayed.

But whatever. It's just a discussion.

Opinions to be respected.

*ANY* artist coming up in the rap game has a struggle.

Biggie was not an exception... in fact he had an Everyday Struggle.

Soulja Boy is irrelevant, I never said he wasn't skilled. His beats are hot, I can't hate on a sixteen year old kid makin money and some quick fame. And he did sell. But does that mean he deserves to be top ten on this list?

It's like I said... Em needed to do what he needed to do, and Big did the same. My point being that once they got to the level they were at publicity-wise, Em, as a white guy, had more willing listeners, with the majority of americans and record buyers being white. And sold more.

Look, AZ dropped Undeniable at the beginning of this year (or the end of last year... I don't remember now) and flopped somethin terrible with sales, less than 6000 units in the first week... but the album itself was tight material. I understand it's all preference... but if sales = skill, then why is AZ selling almost nothing?

because AZ's skill doesn't have a big audience, I dont think you understand that what you consider skill might not be skill to someone else...

any rapper has a struggle, your right, Eminem had a bigger struggle, face it, it's a lot harder to be black and rap then it is to be white and rap... It still is, your not only mocked by most of the black race but your mocked by most of the white race as well...

Em needed to do what he needed to, big did the same? I think not, eminem needed to do what he needed to do, but we he needed to do was a lot more than what biggie needed to do. therefore they are not the same. yes, he sold more than he would have sold if he was black, but if we're not talking about record sales then you can't use that as a point. and if you were to use that I'll use the cliche Biggie got killed, big was big before he died but he became A LOT bigger when he died... let's face it, when you get killed you suddenly become more than what you were. Proof said it best "I'm not the best yet 'cause I haven't been killed" before proof was killed, not many people noticed him, not many people cared for him, yes hip hop respected him, but once he died, suddenly you see all these people with R.I.P proof in their signatures and quotes from him.

Tash is correct, death simply makes you more famous. Big even said "you're nobody till somebody kills you".

heck face it, even tupac got so much bigger after his death. big's dope, but i agree that em probably had to go through more. with so little material out from big we can't put him so high.

also, imagine if eminem had died right after TES...think about where they would have put him. just putting that out there

Tash8 wrote:face it, it's a lot harder to be black and rap then it is to be white and rap...

It is? Really?

That explains why there are so many more white emcees than black.

Right?

And really homie, are you keeping score or something?

Telling me what I can and can't use as a point? And then compensating with a cliche of your own?

You're saying Em had to struggle more... and that means, he must be better, since he sold more anyway, and managed to overcome that, right? Do I understand your train of thought?

But it's like you said. What you consider skill might not be skill to someone else. So, I consider Biggie more skilled than Eminem, and you don't. So then why are we having this conversation?

One of the great things about hip hop is that there is enough diversity for individuals to have their own views. So there's no need for this kind of argument.

Peace.

It was a simple question.

"You'd put Em above Pac, Big, Nas, Jay?"

And the simple answer would be, "yes, that is my opinion."

But pointing fingers and escalating things further will not help us.

Just accept it for what it is.

And proceed with life.

Well, actually, you almost did.

Just you backed up your opinion of Biggie with imaginary albums.

But my bad. Didn't mean to interrupt. Never that.

Enough conversations about conversations.

I'm out.
