Has HipHop has any influence on your views towards violence?

Postby MontanaFX » Dec 4th, '08, 18:22

Ive been bang on the hip Hop this last week or so from a break for a while. I would listen to it in the background but not really tale much notice of the lyrics. Now I have actually been listening to what is being said, I think I have become more conditioned towards violence. It feel its more normal than before and something not to be scared of. If it happens it happens.

This hasent been my view on it over the last 2 years or so. I would quite happily trade some respect for the chance to stay away potentially violence situations. The odd pub fight or what ever didnt bother me, it was the bigger stuff where you know the people and they know where you reside and that... Now, I think fuck it, Im not going to be stupid and start on people for no reason, but if it comes to me being blatantly taken for a mug, it just isnt going to happen. Death doesnt scare me like it used to.

This world has influenced my views towards violence. The fact that war is such a common occurrence, kids killing their parents happens fairly often, parents killing their kids happens even more often, kids killing each other because they're getting picked on is expected, rapes come a dime a dozen, there's more pedophiles getting locked up now than I've ever seen in my life. It's a fucked up world we're so fortunate to be a part of. Music, video games, and media just reflect what happens in the real world, but since people don't want to accept that music, games, and media is influenced by the world, so they blame the world's condition on games, music, etc.

So no, hip hop hasn't changed my views towards violence, violence being such a common practiced has desensitized me to it if anything has.

Gotta agree with what James said. People blame it on hip hop, but hip hop comes from people who live in this world. They just got the balls to say it out loud. And how stupid you have to be to actually believe that, let's say Eminem killed his wife and still ain't in jail?
People just need something to put the blame on and it's easier to blame hip hop or video games than blame yourself.
But yeah, hip hop had some influence on my views toward violence. It made me realize that I hate this world in which shit happens every day at every time to everyone. I'm so sick of it that I don't even watch the news anymore.

People do blame hip hop. I hear it all the time. I think to my self, BS! How can music have such power... I wouldnt have believed it until I experienced a different mind set due to the power of words.

Its basic psychology. You repeatably expose some1 to something and eventually you wont react to it whether good or bad. I just didnt really think that deeply about it in the the past, thus disregarded all claims that music had such power.

Well.. I partly agree with what you said about the exposure, but.. It doesn't always work like that. I've been listening to rap music about 8 years now and never felt the need to fuck someone up, kill someone or take drugs. I know people who feel the same as I do. I know about the power of subconscience and so on, but I also believe that if you've been taught by parents, friends, church or any else person/institution what is good and what is bad, music won't influence you that much. I know music is a powerful tool and it influences people, but you can't blindly follow everything that is said. Part of it is just a fiction and any human being should be able to tell the difference.

they say music can alter moods and talk to you
well can it load a gun up for you and cock it too
well if it can, then the next time you assault a dude
just tell the judge it was my fault and i'll get sued

Plus rap music isn't only about violence. There's plenty of artists who don't talk/don't 'encourage' people to be violent and people still hurt and kill eachother. Why doesn't this kind of music influence them? Because it's easier to squeeze a trigger and then say 'gangsta rap made me do it' than be a man and fight or admit that you've lost.

Yes, in fact after listening to What's the Difference i proceeded to find my only friend who has a hot tub, told him to say "The Chronic is lost product" and then made him cough snot up into said hot tub to simulate the experience and feel like i'm Eminem.
