Trailer Park Boys bow out after seven successful seasons
In their final special, Say Goodnight to the Bad Guys - A Trailer Park Boys Special, the boys find themselves in a very familiar situation: strapped for cash after the mishandling of the $480,000 they finangled from their last “job.” So, what to do? Do what they do best, of course — bend the law, set people up and pocket the profits. However, this time, there’s a twist; someone’s been scheming a plan of their own, to land the boys back in the slammer.
I was lucky enough to catch up with Julian, Bubbles and Ricky, who randomly chatted about everything from underwear habits to New Year’s resolutions. And no, Mr. Lehay wasn’t there. Read on to find out what they’ve been up to since production wrapped:
TVGuide.ca: How much fun was filming the final special?
Ricky: Well, I didn’t have a lot of fun because dumb-dumb Julian basically screwed up and lost all of our money. I got in a bunch of fights with the crew, too.
TVG: Yeah, what happened — at the end you busted up your camera?
Ricky: Yeah, there was a little of that going on.
TVG: What’s your New Year’s resolution?
Julian: I don’t do that [crap].
Ricky: My New Year’s resolution is to try not to go back to jail, but—
TVG: But you have so much fun there!
Ricky: Yeah, jail’s not so bad. I guess I should try and spend more time with my family.
Bubbles: Haven’t thought of one yet… I might try to stop pissing outside.
TVG: What about love lives? Bubbles, there was potential for some hooking up at the dance, did that go anywhere?
Bubbles: Well, not really, I got stuck making damn bologna sandwiches.
TVG: Did you get to eat any?
Bubbles: I had a few, but I smelled like bologna, so the ladies weren’t digging me that night.
TVG: Right. Did you puke anything up?
Bubbles: Not from what I remember, but I pissed myself.
TVG: What’s going on with Mr. Lehay? Have you guys talked to him lately?
Ricky: No, but I can’t wait to talk to him again, because now that the cameras aren’t following us around I’m really going to do some nasty things to him and Randy.
TVG: Has Randy curbed his sweating problem?
Ricky: Well, he sweats grease, so no, he’s greasier than ever.
TVG: What about this Christmas — any plans?
Ricky: Probably just getting drunk, having a snowman Christmas light competition again, and smoking dope.
Julian: Probably have a couple drinks, a deep-fried turkey, smoke some dope and that’s about it.
Bubbles: Shooting off some fireworks, too.
TVG: How cold is it over there around Christmas? Is it as cold as Toronto—
Ricky: It’s cold as [hell].
TVG: How do you keep warm?
Julian: We usually just have big fires — inside and outside.
TVG: Looking over the past seasons, can you pinpoint a favourite episode?
Bubbles: I liked when Steve French, the big mountain lion came to visit, and that was a good one for me because I like hanging out with him… I kissed his belly that one time.
Ricky: I like the one with Rita McNeil just because that was one of my biggest harvests ever.
TVG: What are your plans around the park for next year?
Julian: We don’t know (laughter)… we’re just going to try and make some money, come up with a couple jobs…
TVG: Any jobs lined up right now?
Julian: We’re going to take a few months off and then get back into it. We’re still stealing cars and stuff like that, but no major jobs planned.
TVG: Bubbles, how many cats do you have right now?
Bubbles: Um, there’s about 120 kicking around there.
TVG: 120?!
Bubbles: There’s some nomadic ones, you know. They come and go.
TVG: Do you have a favourite?
Bubbles: Yeah, probably Vincent, just because his paws are so [messed up].
TVG: What about this weekend? Any special plans?
Ricky: Just usual weekend stuff — getting drunk, playing video games, smoking dope. Probably eating a lot of junk.
TVG: A lot of junk? What’s your favourite food?
Ricky: Chips and dip, pepperoni, chicken wings.
TVG: What’s the most important thing in your life?
Bubbles: Well, mine would be my kitties and I guess these two dickweeds.
Ricky: Yeah, I guess these two dicks, and my family, and my clone plants.
TVG: Sorry, say that again?
Ricky: MY CLONE PLANTS.
TVG: Oh, OK, yup.
Julian: I would have to say my most important thing is my ’87 Monte Carlo.
TVG: Oh, right on. Any future plans to film another special?
Ricky: I guess it depends if these camera dicks come back and do it some more… I don’t know, it’s up to Julian… he has to follow up with them.
TVG: Bubbles, any thoughts? Would you like to do it again?
Bubbles: Yeah, I’d love to do it again. I think it’s great.
Ricky: Bubbles stopped wearing underwear. I don’t know if you wanted to know that or not.
TVG: He did what?
Ricky: He stopped wearing underwear about six months ago.
TVG: He stopped wearing underwear?
Bubbles: No more underwear for me!
TVG: Just commando?
Bubbles: Yes, sir.
TVG: Is there a chafing issue? Don’t you always wear jeans?
Bubbles: I wear whatever I want. Jeans, kilt, just as long as there’s no underwear.
TVG: Were you wearing something really uncomfortable that made you stop wearing underwear?
Bubbles: I got all twisted up one day with my underwear.
TVG: And has that worked out?
Bubbles: Oh, it’s fantastic.
TVG: Have you tried to get Ricky or Julian to adopt the same lifestyle?
Bubbles: No, I haven’t. I’ve been preaching to them about how it’s the way to go but I haven’t physically tried to remove their underwear.
TVG: Would you guys ever want to try that?
Ricky: I tried it for a couple days, but I sleep in my underwear, and I walk by my car, and people wouldn’t really like it if I’m walking around.
TVG: What’s the state of your car like?
Ricky: Oh, it’s in great shape. I’ve got another 10 years on that baby.
TVG: Still busting out the clearing stick when you need to?
Ricky: Yeah, but not as much because I realize it is a lot of work to put all the stuff on, and the clear it off and then set it up again.
TVG: Alright. Anything else you guys want to add or share with TV Guide readers?
Bubbles: I’d like to have a free subscription.
TVG: Unfortunately, we don’t have a book anymore… it’s all online, so that would be free…
