A Nightmare on Elm Street remake Q&A

Postby Dark Blue » Feb 17th, '09, 23:20

for those of u that don't know yet there will be another nightmare on elm street movie
this is the Q&A

Q-Is this film going to be a remake, re-imagining, sequel, or prequel to the original film?

A- The 2010 "A Nightmare on Elm Street" will be a re-imagining loosely based on the 1984 horror classic of the same name. (Think "Halloween", "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre", "Black Christmas", "Prom Night", and "Friday the 13th"). There were never any plans for another sequel and producers are skeptical about calling this film a remake. At one point, this film was scheduled to be a prequel, but those plans fell through.

Q-Will we be seeing Freddy Krueger before he haunted people's dreams?

A-It is unclear as to what stages of Freddy Krueger's life will be shown in the film, but he will definitely be the dream-killer he was in the original and its sequels. There have been rumors that a backstory will be told of the Springwood Slasher - the name given to Freddy Krueger before he died.

Q-Will any characters be returning?

A-At this point the only confirmed character to return is Freddy Krueger, who will not be played by Robert Englund. All other characters, including the 1984's famous heroine Nancy Thompson (originally played by Heather Langenkamp), have not been confirmed, though given the history of past remakes, it seems unlikely.
A cast list will be released soon.

Q-Will Robert Englund be returning as Freddy?

A-No. Robert Englund was never asked to return to play Freddy Krueger. However, he did state in a recent interview that he wouldn't mind playing a cameo. Robert Englund has expressed interest in seeing the role in a different actor's hands. and said on August 12 2008, Englund stated that Krueger would instead be played by Billy Bob Thornton, a choice which Englund described as 'excellent'. Because this film is a remake, the idea of Robert Englund returning seemed almost pointless - Robert Englund had such strong ties to the original and its sequels that his return would ultimately confuse audience's into thinking the film was yet another sequel.
The rumour of Billy Bob Thornton playing Freddy was disproven as a rumour a while ago.

Q-Will Wes Craven be involved?

A-Wes Craven's involvement, if any, is still unclear but it is unlikely he will be heavily involved (possibly a co-producer).

Q-Will This Film Be Connected to the Upcoming "Friday the 13th" Re-Imagining?

A-Despite the fact that both "Friday the 13th" and "A Nightmare on Elm Street" are being produced by the same companies and their star characters (Jason Voorhees and Freddy Krueger) were pitted against each other in "Freddy vs. Jason," the remakes of these films will have absolutely nothing to do with each other and will not exist in the same continuity as the previous series of either franchise.

Q-Is Johnny Depp going to have a role in this movie?

A-As of now, there are no plans for Johnny Depp to have a role in Nightmare on Elm Street.

Q-Who will be directing?

A-It was reported on February 12, 2009 that Samuel Bayer has signed up to direct the remake

I agree with Sophie, watched the first 3 and the 1st one was the best. I also liked the 3rd one, which I think is the one Sophie is describing with the warriors getting their abilities inside the dreams.
