uhh.. when i throw a party, i usually tell people to bring their own alcohol (i can't be assed to buy it for everyone, most of them is going to throw it up anyway, so why bother) and snacks they'd like to eat. i buy some chips/Coke or a bottle of vodka, but that's it. when i threw a new year's eve party, my friend brought home-made sushi. the idea of everyone bringing something is not only way cheaper, but also way cooler - some people have awesome ideas and there might be a vide range of stuff (alcohol, food, music).
music.. iono, if your friends are into hip hop - the choice is obvious. at parties, we play some old/shit music - seriously, when you're drunk it's much more fun when you play the ol' good 90's music

last party - we played 'Macarena' and people went crazy.

make sure to hide
ALL the stuff you consider fragile/valuable/worth-keeping-in-one-piece, but also hide cables (someone might not notice them and take down your fave lamp or TV set), flowerpots, put bubble foil on the couch (to prevent it from being spilled on/spat on/threw up on/etc) and have fun
