a-b-c of r-a-p?

Postby threeandtwenty » Mar 24th, '09, 14:24

i thought this was the perfect audiance to ask...if this aint the right section my bad, shove me.

does anyone first write a song to a beat,or the other way?
ive only ever written straight bars, never with a beat in mind

then, when you record,do you record an acapella first and then overlay it on the instrumental?
i tried this, but it seems disconnected.how do producers make a verse stick to the beat?
what im really trying to ask is...can any acapella (or almost any),if done right,be tailored to any beat?or do you rap over the instrumental live, and record them both together?
whose arm is this?..i must've cut it off at the pharmacist

I record my shit with the beat in my headphones.
Than I just put the acpella on the beat as I rapped it.

It's not hard if you got the flow. :y:

i write to beats mainly...often i write down random unfinished bars without a beat...but then puzzle them together with a beat...and i record it normally with the beat running thru my headphones and i rap...
and for your question...not ANY acapella can tailored to ANY beat...mostly tho.....but a certain flow/sheme/orderliness should be there....you can go search a matching beat or just write to the beat you goin for and save searching :y:

yes.

you want to listen to the beat while you write, how else would you find a flow that matches the beat?

then when you record, play the beat thru the headphones so the mic doesnt record the beat as well, then use software to lay the acapella over the beat

thanks yall...
i have another question, though it sounds stupid...how do i flow?i find it almost IMPOSSIBLE.like an animal my first instinct is to spit mad fast on any beat im given.does everyone find it so difficult to hold a beat of is it just my messed up sense of rhythm...

whats the relation between a drum beat and the rhyming words...are they supposed to occur at the same time?(..duh).
whose arm is this?..i must've cut it off at the pharmacist

you wanna start out by trying to hit the rhyming word on the snare.

the snare comes in the form of a snare drum (a higher pitched drum) or some sort of clap.

so if you flow like this/
bass bass (snare)
then you could be the shit/
bass (snare)

get the idea?

EDIT, it keeps rearranging the text, but to to get the snare to hit at the end of your line, on the rhyming word when yuo start out.

just got your PM :y:

dont know what you mean by boom in the room...

but for studio quality you'll have to spend quite a few dollars.

if you're just looking to start out, a basic stick mic from walmart will get you started with recording and decent quality can be achieved with the right mixing.

Most people write to beats for 2 reasons.

One because beats inspire them and get concepts in their heads, and
two because it makes it easier to work the flow to suit the beat.

However, i have written verses without beats and then later fitted them onto beats, so it is not unheard of.

where i live theres a locality where anybody can get any electronic piece of equipment they want.took a trip there to check stuff out and quickly learnt to stay away from the mics that look like electric razors...

so...after diverting my attention to less aesthetic ones some kindly gentleman offered me a free stick mic.he could be homo.

i bagged it anyway and ill go back friday to check out the otheres, because the stic is shit...i have a better chance of communicating directly with computer memory. :sweating:
