Solace, it's simply called that because before people had clocks and all that technical shit it was the depth of night. So once we got clocks and all that shit people just called the turning of the new day midnight. There's no actual reason. It's not because of that 7pm to 7am thing because then "midnight" would be 1am, not 12am. Also a lot of people don't consider it the next day until they sleep and wake up. So there's no technical, factual reason (to my knowledge at least) that it's midnight.
