I cant stress how much i agree with you, in my opinion this is one of the most lyricly talented songs ive ever heard. You can say the voice sucks, hes just doin that to piss off the people who dont care about lyrics. How the hell do you even flow like that?
"Your walking down a horror corridor Its almost 4 in the mornin
And your in a nightmare Its horrible right theirs the cor-ona
Waitin for you to turn the corner so he can corner ya Youre a cor-na hes on ta ya
Out the corner of his cornia He just saw ya run"

And like you said, you get these kind of chills when you hear parts of this song that just amaze you in a sort of disturbing way i agree with that too

"And just when I went to drink his blood
I thought I oughta drink his bathwater That oughta be fun
Thats when my days as serial murder manslaughter begun
The sight of blood excites me That might be an artery son
Your blood covered and screams just dont seem to bother me none"

I have to say, i had to listen to this song about 20 times to understand all of the deep wordplay and referances. In my opinion its 9/10

*Oh, i forgot to say how much this excites me for this album*

I completely agree you. That's really disappointing to think that people are already blowing Relapse off as some POS album. At the end of the day, nobody knows what its going to sound like. Nobody knows the tracklist. Everyone needs to calm down until they hear it before they try to compare it to another album.

TruEmFan wrote:And I know there's been all these complaints about his accent and the guy on the radio show said he didn't like his cadence 'cause he's still doing that whiny voice... But if you listen to the song and really take it all in, it enhances the vibe of it. It makes him sound psychotic, deranged, and crazy, which is the point of the song. You hear the hook and you immediately get turned off from the sound of his voice, but it fits the tone of the entire song. If he was just rapping in the same deep voice, it wouldn't be the same. He wouldn't sound as insane.

I like the way he sounds on "3 A.M.", especially compared to his other his early work. The Slim Shady LP is the album where he had an obnoxious, childish voice, but it fit his songs at that time. He focused on drugs and his shitty lifestyle. The Marshall Mathers LP was a transitional period; some of the songs are more mature, while others still use that whiny voice. By the time he released The Eminem Show, he was a grown man and his voice reflected that. Encore was just a jumbled mess, which I'm assuming was because of his heavy drug use.

His inflection in Relapse may reflect how he felt during his days of drug addiction. I'm not going to write it off until I hear it. Sure, I'm not the biggest fan of his new stuff, but I certainly don't think he's releasing garbage. Compared to the music out since he left, this new stuff is a breath of fresh air.

I used to, and i'd always say "em's goin platinum first week" and all that shit.I think that's one of the main problems with hip hop right now, everyone cares about stats and all that shit that shouldnt matter. Ppl like 50, who always mention the numbers, are helping to kill hip hop. Em, I like what he said in that XXL article, how he really just wanted to rap because he missed it, and that he just wants to be respected as an MC. This is a song for all the hip hop heads, and all the people that actually listen to lyrics and care about shit like that (not just the chorus). All the ppl sayin em's lost it, seriously can go fuck themselves. You can really say whatever the fuck you want, when the album comes out. I think 3 AM is a GREAT sign of whats to come. I bet if Brain damage and If I Had came out right now, ppl would b like WTF em's voice sounds retarded. He's not even doing an accent in this song barely, I think hes just doing his own voice. The songs great, and btw it is better than Like Toy Soldiers (Encore's second single). I wanna hear fuckin Relapse right now, shits gonna b off the CHAIN.....

At first I found that accent fucking horrible; however, after listening to it a couple of times the accent grow on me. It's actually an element that fits the songs concept, it adds a certain creepy feeling to it.
I'm not saying that I like the accent, just that it isn't that bad as people make it ought to be. The lyrics are incredible; the amount of syllables that rhyme in one sentence, is great. Flow seems choppy at some points, delivery is....well, I dunno..it goes with the accent I guess. The chorus is just bad imo...
Overall its not great; however, not bad either. I still have a some hope for relapse.

Whether its because i've played out every Eminem song so much that I never listen to Eminem anymore...but this "3AM" is top 10 Eminem song for me. It's just so different and entertaining.

Regarding the call ins to that radio station...3 AM is NOT for people who listen to the radio. Relapse won't be for people who listen to the radio either. This is for people with twisted minds who think twisted thoughts and don't conform to the "standards" established by society. This is creativity at its finest and as a person who's been rhyming for a long time, I can appreciate that. Appreciate the song for what it is, and if you can't do that, then perhaps this album may not be for you.

have a vic and a half and a :b:

It's interesting how the people on the radio were like

"His cadence, it's tired--it sounds the same"

or

"It's classic shady, classic eminem this is awesome"

For me it's the opposite, it isn't eminem, it isn't the same, and I don't like the new voice.

Though the point brought up that it kind of sets the tone, just like the I'm Having A Relapse is interesting and I think I agree about that. Just after hearing CAB and especially We Made You, I feel like i'm getting drowned in this accent.

This song gets better after more listens, but still...it didn't take me 50 listens to love Cleaning Out My Closet...

The first verse of the song was fire; he spat it raw. But then I was disappointed after that. The song grew on me after 4-5 listens.

But like someone just said, a good song shouldn't have to grow on me (ex. "Without Me" or "Kill You")

I think that the 3rd verse is the stupidiest of 3 brilliant verses personally.

And i think this whole thing of listening a few times is more down to our expectations. We're holding our breathes for a "Stan" kind of song about Proof or whatever, and then when they're not we have to get over the change, re set our minds, and listen again to appreciate it.

I don't know if it's even possible to force yourself to like a song, or for a song to go from shit to good through just how much you listen to it :confusion:

I don't think the song's concept is an excuse for the voice. When I read the lyrics, I hear him using his "White America" yelling voice (or something similar), and it sounds a lot better. The lyrics are impressive, but the execution is horrible once again. I'm just glad the accent is either not there or barely there.
