The misconception about Autotune is that, the autotune is the "T-Pain effect". True and false. Autotune is a pitch corrector plug-in. EVERY singer uses autotune on the actual album. Even the best singers use it, because let's say she/he sings a particular note, even though she/he is a good singer, it will not reach EXACTLY that note. So they use autotune to make it sound perfect on the album.
BUT if you REALLY don't know how to sing, what happens is, your real voice is so far away from the actual note, that when you put autotune it'll will sound weird, because it has to correct your pitch which is too far from the note. Basically, T-Pain can't sing, so the autotune use makes it sound so crazy, AND on top of that he overuses it to make it sound robotic, like Lil Wayne does and Kanye.
As for Eminem, everytime he sings a chorus, Autotune is used because he's not a singer obviously. There's also Melodyne, which does the same thing as Autotune, but since T-Pain uses Autotune, most people knows about it. On "My Mom" at one point he overuses Autotune, in Bagpipes too. But on records like Beautiful, or Underground, he uses it like it should be.
Also, I read an interview by the Bass Brothers, and they said that the only tiime they didn't use a pitch corrector, was on "Kim".
ps: sorry for the long post, but I just want people to know that every singing on every record has autotune on it, cuz I don't want people to think that it's JUST the T-pain effect.
