Underground?

Postby haydoz » May 11th, '09, 01:22

does anyone else think that the rapping doesn't suit the beat, or that if the beat was different it could actually be a good song?

I don't understand how people like the song how it is, good lyrics but the beat definitely ruins it.

The drum hit is just in a place your not used to, kinda like Get Up. But Em absolutely tears this beat up so its def. a top 5 song on Relapse. If you can't feel the beat, then something is wrong with ur sense of rhythm that you can't adjust to different drum hits. Just my opinion, take it for what it is.

As to ever said that he was trying to catch up to the beat.
I just read an old eminem interview from around the time of the eminem show and he was saying how on the eminem show he was just trying to flow with the beat better. Like not having to catch up to it. Which was the thing he said he hated about Marshal mathers LP

That is an ill beat actually...

I thought he was off-beat at first.

It's only because the hook is off-beat, and it's so loud.

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned this already, but the style is exactly the same as If I Get Locked Up Tonight. Take a good listen to both. The beat is supposed to be off, but if you recite lyrics over it yourself, you'll realize just how much easier it is to fit lyrics without syllable restrictions.

ya this track isnt in my top 4
first, it would be alot better if it had a different chorus... its just horrible.
and imo sometimes it sounds like em is trying to cram to many syllables in some parts
i think it comes down the the rhyme scheme. its flawless but i personally dont think it suits the beat...
anyway.. i agree with haydoz.. it just dont sound right

I can't believe people can actually find fault in this track. I'm loving it to bits, this is the old Eminem we were begging to come back. He smashed this beat to pieces, and it's one of the best beats I've heard in fuckin years. The hook is brilliant, really original, dark and heavy. It's like it's armageddon and the whole fuckin ihip-hoop community is about to meet it's doom. No one can touch Eminem when he's rapping like this.

My only problem with the track, is that Ken Kaniff is the same track and they didn't split it up, I hope they change that for the CD.

No it isn't? :confusion: It just not an original rap song rhythm 4/4, you should give your respect to Em because of flowing on that beat which is something like 1/2 rhythm. Not anybody can do that really. By the first time I heard it, I couldn't catch it at all but after several times I finally found the rhythm and it's correct and actually genius choice for trying something new :y:

He's not of beat, it's the drum pattern that's unusual. Cuz listen, you'll see that there's always a word ending on the kicks and snare. That's the basic of flowing.

Also, that track is basically SSLP. That's how he used to rap, just like in Role Model, a lot of syllables and punchlines

Yeah...the issue is that it's not the same regurgitated boring ass rhythm.

Underground is one of the best songs on Relapse, one of my favorite from Em atm. My opinion of course, but Underground is definitely a good song...Very much like the SSLP.

Also:

Does anyone else think it's possible that Eminem disses Haystak on Relapse? Like on Underground, he says "Fuck Jason, it's friday the 19th". Don't get me wrong, I understand that on the surface this appears to be another Horror Movie reference, but he references Jason Vorhese and other characters in the next verse. I've noticed a few lines that seem to be Jason Vorhese lines, but I think that they may be subliminal Haystak disses; Haystak's name is Jason Winfree. Sort of like on Wide Awake (I think) where he says "It's makin me play hide an seek, like Jason I'm so hungry". Haystak's a big fatass, so it's possible.

I think that if Em were to diss Haystak, he would do it like that, because it would simultaneously disrespect him, AND keep from giving him any kind of exposure. That's how Em would diss a relatively unknown rapper that came at him for attention.

The hook is definitely at a much different rhythm than the verses, which threw me off. That's all I'm saying.

But ah... Eminem is not the first rapper to flow on a beat. Sometimes yall act like it.

It was a great song, though. I just think the way he delivered the rest of the album was really fucking annoying.
