Does Eminem use autotune on beautiful

Normally, autotune is something that's not even noticeable when used properly. So there's NO way anyone who wasn't in the mixing process can say : no, no autotune. Why I'm saying he uses it when he sings, is because I've been in studios and I have recording experience and EVERYONE uses it.

For exemple, you can but some slight reverb on a voice and it's not noticeable, but if you put a lot, then you hear all the echo. Same thing with Autotune, if you put too much it sounds like T-Pain.

Anyway, I just hate arguing over the internet on FACTS. Go on google or wikipedia and read about autotune. I'm done.

I'm in a music class and when we had to do vocals, my teacher said that reverb is a good way to make you sound like you can sing. It kind of sounds like you're singing in the shower or a huge concert hall. Almost like an echo sound. I like it way better than those autotune plugins because they don't make you sound like a gay robot if you can't really sing, lol.

Another way is duplicate the vocal track and drop it or raise it a few semitones to create a harmony. I'd have to listen to Beautiful again to see which one he's doing, but it's most likely the layering like the other poster said. I remember in an interview Eminem did, he said that he records over his voice or some shit in a lower or higher tone to make it sound harmonic. I think he called it doubling, but I can't remember...

Your music teacher is an idiot. Reverb adds the hall effect, it doesn't make you sound better in anyway.
And on a recording, duplicating a track is highly unprofessional, and raising it a few semitones just makes it sound ever stupider, because it wont sound like if you actually are singing at that pitch.

But he does layer his choruses? Like the "Lose Yourself" chorus, he's singing something different behind the main chorus. I know that's a layer and not a dupe but...

I think on Beautiful it may be dupe'd, like one in a higher octave and one in a slightly lower octave, it sounds layered.

well, theres absolutely nothing wrong with layering, thats perfectly acceptable.. and professional. How ever duplicating a track just isn't something professionals do and i doubt that eminem does it.

Yeah...some of these people on here aren't too bright, and don't bother to read any of the other posts. Just for sake of argument though, when we say "auto-tune" we'll be referring to the over-use of it, like T-Pain.

But he uses this effect on more than just one song. BFB, My Mom, and Hello all use it, as far as I can tell. It's cool, he totally makes fun of those who do over-use it.

Jeff and Mark Bass have been party to some of Eminem's most notable work. Among their best-known productions is "Kim," a dark, booming track in which the rapper spins a gruesome horror tale about killing his unfaithful wife. Released in 2000, it became one of the most controversial songs of Marshall Mathers' career, a track that Jeff Bass describes as "the most intense thing we ever worked on with him." It also provides a telling look into the trio's working process.

"That song wasn't even necessarily written for him," recalls Jeff. Long before Eminem had lyrics, it started as a drum track, played by Mark on a kit at Detroit's White Room Studio and edited into a big, banging rhythm loop. Jeff added a haunting piano line, a few "tripped-out reverse cellos" and bass guitar.

"It was still lacking something," Jeff says. "So we added big rock guitars to go with those big rock drums. At that point, we had the core groove. But we still needed a chorus."

That's when Jeff tucked in a section of morose violin played on a synth. Now they had a complete "clap" track -- Bass Brothers lingo for a classical-rap fusion.

Eminem wrote and recorded his part in a single session at the brothers' studio in Burbank, Calif. "He sat there with the headphones on and wrote it," Jeff says, "then cut his vocals standing by the mixing board." Unlike many vocalists -- who like a little reverb in their headphones -- Eminem records his raps dry. It's a simple setup: a single microphone and preamp.


Eminem is also the master of his own sound effects. During the "Kim" session, he dashed outside and returned with an armful of leaves, which he dumped on the studio floor. If you listen to the song at about the 4:20 mark, you'll hear what sounds like someone fleeing outdoors. It's not an overdub; Eminem ran his feet through the leaves while delivering the vocal. As with all his songs, the myriad background voices on "Kim" were recorded as he went -- he wouldn't proceed to the next verse until they were tacked on.

When Eminem's verses were finished, they moved on to the chorus, and initially discussed hiring Ozzy Osbourne or Marilyn Manson to sing the foreboding lines ("Sooo long/Bitch, you did me so wrong"). But ultimately it became "the first song where Marshall chose to sing," says Mark. "We said, 'Well, you can rap. But you can't really sing.' "

Undaunted, Eminem stepped up to the microphone and laid down the lines. Unlike some of his later singing efforts, which would be digitally tweaked to correct pitch problems, the "Kim" chorus went onto the album as is.

Recorded last was the song's deceptive introduction, in which Eminem sweetly coos to his young daughter before abruptly lurching into his spousal tirade. He wanted a very specific sound, but didn't know how to describe it. "What are those baby things?" he asked Jeff in frustration. "You know, those baby things!" "Digital tweaking", it could be as little as a few manual pitch adjustments.

Doing it manually would be quite a labor. That's why it's called "Auto"-tune lol.

I don't say they did use the plug-in Autotune, but I meant that they did some pitch correcting. But really, all I wanted, was people to know that Autotune != T-Pain effect, but T-pain effect = Autotune. Kinda like a Square is a rectangle, but a rectangle is not a square thing lol
