A Look at Eminem's Albums... (Part 1)

Postby Relapse.LP » May 28th, '09, 23:58

I'm pretty sure all of you noticed that each of Eminem's studio albums brought a certain feel, both subject-matter-wise, production-wise, and lyrical-wise...

The Slim Shady LP

Production
-more bass oriented beats
-less polished sounding
-has a underground feel
-composed of loud snares and guitar riffs

Lyrical
-Frequent use of internal rhyming
-Rapped choruses
-Very very infrequent use of singing
-High-pitched nasal-sounding voice

Subject Matter
-the difficulties he faces in his life
-lack of money
-dislike of his family (mother, wife)
-"fucked-up" stories (Ex: 97' Bonnie & Clyde)
-references to his childhood

The Average Song (incorporates the basic elements of the album): As the World Turns

The Marshall Mathers LP

Production
-a gritty overall feel
-a variety of beats with heavy basses or heavy kicks
-more polished sound than the SSLP
-uses piano chords, guitar plucking, cymbals, and other instruments

Lyrical
-Frequent use of internal rhyming
-Mostly rapped choruses
-A large switching in flows (Ex: The Way I Am & Amityville, Under the Influence & Kill You)
-Lower-pitched nasal-sounding voice to angry spitting

Subject Matter
-excessive references to spontaneous violence
-the difficulties he faces in his new life: fans, critics, YOU
-violence towards his wife and mother
-major usage of homophobic words

The Average Song: Kill You
Yo, from the first to the last of it; delivery is passionate/
The whole and not the half of it; vocab and not the math of it/
Projectile that them blasted with; accurate assassin shit/
Me and Kweli close like... Bethlehem and Nazareth/

-Black Star, Definition

I like this. Come on, do part 2 and 3 (or only part 2 if you can put it all in there). Why break it up? when is the rest coming? :)
