I miss Eminem

Postby kerryjoe » May 30th, '09, 01:35

Since Relapse got leaked I've been listening to it non stop, I've already memorized by heart about 87% of it. Today I was going through my albums and saw the way i am and ended up listening to the entire mmlp. Now Relapse is amazingly dope and addicting and until today I thought it was Eminem's best album. But listening to tracks like Marshall Mathers, I'm back, and Criminal and other tracks and I realize that no matter how much I love Relapse niether it or any other of Eminem's albums will fully match up to the calliber in which mmlp stands. In mmlp he's an amazing lyrisist by using logical hilarious metaphores and uphimisims and unbelievably controversal which is the Eminem we all love. Lines like "talkin' about I fabricated my past/he's just agrivated/I won't ejaculate in his ass" just blow me away. It's witty, raw, funny and obviously controversial. I don't know what it is but Eminem has softened, he's not really attacking anybody that would respond (don't mention that faggot nick cannon) and excluding Relapse, the lyrical content, specifically the words he's rhyming are much more dumbed down. Don't get me wrong Relapse is an excellent album, but I miss the mmlp Eminem, that's the Eminem I came to love and couldn't get enough of. Look at the mmlp, there's not one song on there that I don't really like. On Relapse, even though I love Relapse and his other lp's, on every album there's probably two or three songs I could of done without, on Relapse I could do without a lot of them like Same Song and Dance Must Be The Ganja Bagpipes and almost all the singles even though I like we made you and 3 am and dont really mind Crack a Bottle even though it gets annoying. Anyway I'm rambling on, I guess I just miss the old Eminem. Maybe the addict chronicals (Relapse 2) will bring him back. Do you guys agree?

Dumbed down lyrics? What the fuck are you talking about? Relapse has some of his most complexe lyricism ever.

He's not going to make another SSLP, TES, Encore, Infinite, etc. Those albums, particularly the most revered ones, are solidified in his catalog so he will most likely never top those records.

I mean, the same goes for a lot of other artists. I don't expect Jay-Z to ever surpass Reasonable Doubt or Blueprint. Or Nas with Illmatic and Stillmatic. Or Guns N Roses with Appetite for Destruction, or Michael Jackson with Thriller, etc. Too much history has been recorded.

And the funny thing is, fans ask for replicas of the same album, and most of the time, when the artist obliges and tries to do the same thing, it comes out as being "forced" and "just not the same." The man already called his album Relapse, what more do you want?

If you miss the old Eminem so much, then stay listening to MMLP. Simple, really...

Word except you forgot The Black Album :p

I'm not talking about him as a person, or his style, that can chamge or stay the same whatever, so can the lyrical content, I'm just saying I miss Em pissing everybody off and having that not giving a fuck attitude and calling bull shit artists out, I'm glad he's chamged up but I miss him pissing everybody off.

mmlp had a certain rawness to it, it was gritty but polished at the same time, musically it was better but relapse more lyrical imo
