^ Agreed, but placing Relapse above his first 3 his a stretch imo. Still love it though.

Eminem Show all the way.

What I like about this forum is that people actually feel that Eminem Show is his best (in general). Because in my mind, the average person will MMLP was his best because they listen to it because it was hot and when TES came, they felt he was too comercial so they felt it wasn't "cool" anymore.

MMLP is a classic but TES is a classic by quality alone. MMLP was ground breaking with songs like Stan and Kim and the controversy. TES had no controversy whatsoever all it had was : great beats + greatest verses ever, it wasn't ground breaking, it was just amazing good ass music nothing more, nothing less.

IMO : TES > MMLP > RELAPSE > SSLP

I put MMLP over Relapse because of Stan.

D0llyShady wrote:No fuckin' way. TES & MMLP are unbeatable. Yeah, the lyrics on Relapse were good, but the concept... I honestly had trouble listening to the whole album at once since it got so damn boring. There's no competition. Here's my list:

1. TES/MMLP (they were equally great, hell, they were PERFECT). 5/5!
2. SSLP (it is somewhat similar to Relapse, except it's funny, it has many different concepts and it could never, ever bore me). 4/5.
3. Infinite (I don't care if it's lyrically worse than Relapse, I like it. A lot). 3.5/5
4.Relapse (miles ahead Encore, but... I could never listen to it from top to bottom. No way. It had some great songs and it had some songs I'm never going to like. I liked Insane, My Mum, Same song & dance, Stay wide awake, Deja Vu, Beautiful & Underground, but that's it. There's only 1 concept throughout the whole album and it just bores me to no end in the other songs). 2.5/5
5. Encore (I'm tired of commenting it. Not a bad album, but some songs were honestly unacceptable). 2/5.

Feel free to disagree, but that's my opinion and it's not going to change. I just hope R2 will be better.

You made some good points, but the part in bold confused me. Infinite is arguably Eminem at his lyrical best, it's non stop multi-syllable complex rhyming form start to finish. You'd be hard pushed to find an album that is more lyrical. Strange thing to say, almost as strange as saying Relapse is boring. It's far from that, I think it's a lot of fun, with a lot of different types of songs on it, yes the lyrics are very murder based serial killer shit on most of the tracks, but it's a very interesting non-boring album.

Back on topic, not a fuckin chance his best album.

MMLP, SSLP, TES. 3 undeniable classics, truly great albums, can't say which is better, all personal taste. My fave is MMLP 'cos that's what got me hooked.
Relapse, a lot of very good songs, but lacking 1 or 2 really great tracks which could have given the album classic status.
Encore, very good album, but some shite songs let it down.
Infinite, brilliant lyrically, but lacking in production, hooks, concepts and Eminem finding his voice.

Re: was relapse his best album?

This is not very exact... because all his albums contribute something to his overall persona... but in average.....

1. The Marshall Mathers LP
2. The Eminem Show
3. The Slim Shady LP
4. Relapse
5. Encore

The Marshall Mathers LP is a classic album. Even with an idiotic, humorous filler track, "Under the Influence," it still is a classic and has changed the rap game. With such angry emotional tracks ("The Way I Am" and "Kim"), it really is a moving album, but more in a negative way. This album has lots of homophobic references and shit like that and it seems he's trying to cope with his "new" celebrity lifestyle. He's pissed at critics, his mother, his wife, and he still does not give a fuck. Did I mention he's also pissed at you? You fucking retards: why did you piss him off?

1. Kill You 5/5
(He wants to rape his mother and kill bitches. Legendary.)
2. Stan 5/5
(A moving tale about how an obsessed fan writes to him. You know how it goes. It's amazing.)
3. Who Knew 4/5
(Kinda funny confessional about how he didn't know his impact on kids... I never knew I get him to hit this bitch!")
4. The Way I Am 5/5
(Wow. His flow and anger and lyrics is just too much for me. Nah, this is his best song period. Listen to it whenever I'm pissed.)
5. The Real Slim Shady 4/5
(It's decent. One of his cruler and more controversial pop celebrity dissings...)
6. Remember Me? 3.5/5
(Crazy song. But Sticky Fingaz's flow sounds strange... Or is it just me?)
7. I'm Back 4/5
(He is back. Suck it bitches.)
8. Marshall Mathers 5/5
(Fuck ICP! This is one angry vent. The beat goes very well with the track.)
9. Drug Ballad 4.5/5
(Gets me high every time. Better than Cum on Everybody, in the least.)
10. Amityville 5/5
(Name one rapper who spits better than he does in his verse. Epic shit.)
11. Bitch Please II 4/5
(It's a good collaboration. It's a good beat. But nothing exceptional really...)
12. Kim 5/5
(Marshall screams at his wife for nearly five minutes and strangles her to death while using a knife in the process. The incredible thing is we sympathize with him. Wow. Us bastards.)
13. Under the Influence 3/5
(Sounds like a scrapped song from the "Devil's Night" album.)
14. Criminal 5/5
(Gays get dissed and bitches get shot. An awesome conclusion to his best album.)

The Eminem Show is his most personal attempt...

1. White America 5/5
(Lyrics about how fucked up this country is over a rock-based heavy beat. Legendary opener.)
2. Business 4/5
("Hip Hop is in the state of 911." Not exactly yet, but you're welcome back anyways, Shady.)
3. Cleanin' Out My Closet 5/5
(A straight-up angry song about his mom. Sounds like "The Way I Am," sort of...)
4. Square Dance 4.5/5
(Fuck Canibus! Beat + Flow = Awesome.)
5. Soldier 4/5
(I don't really feel this song... although the flow is very nice.)
6. Say Goodbye Hollywood 5/5
(A long confessional about how his celebrity life influenced his family ties, especially with Hailie.)
7. Drips 4/5
(Obie Trice sounds like he drank too much beer.)
8. Without Me 4.5/5
(A banging beat with a kickass flow. Woot.)
9. Sing for the Moment 5/5
(How did Eminem influence his listeners? This is legendary shit.)
10. Superman 4.5/5
(A song for the ladies. Lol. This song's hook is one of my favorites ever.)
11. Hailie's Song 4/5
(Moving attempt to create a loving dedication to his daughter. <3)
12. When the Music Stops 3/5
(Another scrapped track from "D12 World.")
13. Say What You Say 4/5
(Dre and Eminem trade off verses over a "in-your-face" beat.)
14. 'Till I Collapse 5/5
(Name one rapper who spits better than Eminem in this track.)
15. My Dad's Gone Crazy 4.5/5
(It's kinda funny... but the 3rd verse is epic shit right there. :worship: )
Yo, from the first to the last of it; delivery is passionate/
The whole and not the half of it; vocab and not the math of it/
Projectile that them blasted with; accurate assassin shit/

No!
The best is The Eminem Show or The Marshall Mathers LP!
But if Relapse 2 will be serious then it could be his best album to date :)
"Proof, No matter how much time passes, not a day goes by that I don't think of you. If it weren't for you, I would not be where I am today and we both know it. I tried to write song for you but nothing was good enough, so I'm dedicating them all to you-and you'd be happy to know that I spazzed out on 'em gain!I know you wouldn't have it any other way! Fuck 'em all--let's get 'em!
P.S. I'm sober now, I know you'd be proud. I love you Doody, I'll never forget you. Love, Doody "

The GameKeeper wrote:Not even close... In my opinion, The MMLP and Eminem Show are his best and when he was in his prime. The SSLP and Relapse arew close but the SSLP was his first release on a major label and got me real excited to hear more from him... I dont know if I feel that way anour Relapse 2 now because his subject matter isnt what it used to be... Relapse starts out strong with the first 3 or 4 songs but during the middle of the album it gets a little boring to me, and then it ends strong with the last 5 or 6 songs. It is alot beter than Encore though... I am 30 so all you young bucks might have been too young to hear Em in his prime and appreciate what he did for him hop back in the day... shit, I am probably the oldest dude on this site!!! Its because I am and always will be a fan... I just wish he would have had a few more personal tunes opposed to the "Hello's", "Same Song and Dance" and "Medicine Balls"... even "Stac Wide Awake" has a sick beat and chorus but the subject matter is dull. The shit about him killing people gets a little old though I do think 3AM is great... thats why his first 3 albums were so great. They all had a great mix of comedy and him talking about his life... I do believe his flow is better than ever now... but the content disapointed me in way after a few listens. Id give it 3.5... best song is definitely "Mom Mom"... thats classic Eminem. Beautiful and Deja Vu are a close 2nd.

The Eminem Show--- 5 out of 5
The MMLP--- 4.5-5
The SSLP--- 4
Relapse--- 3.5
Encore--- 2.5

Wont rate Infinite.

Spot on. Spot on. The albums/ratings you put are mine exactly.

I'm 24 and I can't sit through a 36 man trying to make a "shocking" rhymes about raping chicks and killing people; it sounds corny/cliche on Relapse as if he has forced himself to be shocking (which he admitted that he had to ask Dre what kind of music people expect/want from him). It was shocking in SSLP and MMLP (when he actually had passion to rap about rape) and a lot more clever back then too.

Em's always shined through good story telling songs (Ex. Deja Vu, Soldier) and Relapse seems like a step backwards. Again, songs like 3 a.m. aren't bad, but I don't want 15 songs with the same exact content (How many times can he rape a chick whose name ends with an "ah", Brenda, Tonya).

SSLP had songs like "As the World Turns" which had his Slim Shady flow and it was actually good. Painted a story, didn't sound over-the-top and wasn't forcefully shocking.

And as you mentioned, the subject matter has been exhausted; I hope Relapse 2 isn't the same same.
