I'm sick of hearing people think video games cause violence

I'm tired of people thinking they are smart by guessing video games and movies makes people want to beat someone up and do drugs or smoke cigarettes, it does not.
sure, crime and drug usage has increased over the years, but they are not linked to T and M rated games. the "studies" for it are unreliable and poorly reasearched.

"Oh wow, this game is fun."
*beats up friend*

"Huh, marijuana is mentioned in this game?"
*looks for drug dealer*
I'm that dude.

I want to talk shit, but i'll probably get banned for it from now on :sweating:

I never fucked a hooker because I was low on health and then killed her to get my money back after playing GTA. In fact I stopped doing that because I could just do it in the video game and not have the smell of hooker blood all over me.

But honestly, there are some fucking idiots out there, who take shit too seriously, but it's being taken beyond proportion now. Video games don't cause violence, stupid idiots do.

well, actually these games should be kept away from kids until they are at least seven or eight, since they are still learning how the world works. i heard about a kid in the news who shot a friend and didn't know he was gone forever. thought he would "respawn" or something

or that was just a fake article.

I agree with you, but you can't deny that people these days are programmed to love guns and violence; I know I am. I'm against the idea of violence, but years of movies and video games has made me enjoy watching shit explode. I can't help but to love watching people shoot guns at each other, and punch each other in the face. And this is all coming from a person who thinks violence is a terrible way to solve things. I can't think of anything else that could make me this way except for violent entertainment.
But this is about actually CAUSING violence. And you are right about that; normal people know the difference between entertainment (mostly video games in this case, because it places the person in the situation) and reality. Just because I'm programmed to think guns are "cool" doesn't mean I'm going to shoot somebody in the face - even as a means of retaliation.
But here's the thing. Some people (lets call them psychos) DO get highly influenced by these things. For example, entertainment like video games and scapegoat-of-the-year Marilyn Manson did not cause the shooters of Columbine to do what they did, as many people have suggested (over and over again). But without these things, I think it's something that wouldn't have happened. If I was never exposed to violent video games and movies, I'm sure i would hate just WATCHING violence, which would make me less likely to actually DO something violent. But you are right - it is never a CAUSE. But I believe that it can be an influence.
(And I am talking about violent entertainment in general, not just video games)

video games is not an influence in any shape or form.

people do drugs and commit crimes because of bullshit that happened to them in their lives.

you're saying kids only use their imagination from video games if they play them?

I didn't say that there weren't other factors. Something happening in your life can also lead you towards violence. But it's usually a combination of things that would lead someone down a violent path.

I'm guessing you like playing violent videos. Let me ask you, do you think guns are "cool?" I think you do, because otherwise you would hate playing video games involving them. That in itself makes you more likely to shoot someone than someone who has seen guns portrayed in a negative way all of his/her life. But this isn't enough to make you shoot someone - there are usually other factors that will make a person violent. But a love of violence is one of the first. And it is something that sets in early in life.

Someone who has never seen a violent movie or played a violent video game is less likely to be violent than someone who has. It's logic.

I usually only play halo, but I occasionally play RPGs, call of duty and devil may cry.
guns are not cool. dumbasses made guns legal, and everyone continues to make guns legal.
of course after the two probition laws on alcohol and then drugs, then things would likely be worse if guns were made legal.....

dude, you just said you hate violence, yet you love to watch it... are you some kind of stupid hypercrite?

your last statement makes no sense whatsoever, it has no logic. but with guns it is different, but for only one reason.

Don't call me stupid if you have no idea about what I'm talking about.
This is what I meant: I hate war and violence, but years of watching it in films, movies, and video games has programmed me to enjoy watching it. I can't help it. It's just entertaining for me to watch. Same with everyone else I've met, whether they believe violence is a good solution or not. I don't know anybody who doesn't love to watch explosions and shit like that. Because they've been programmed to enjoy it.

Also, why do you play Call of Duty? You said guns aren't cool. You must think shooting people in the face isn't cool either. Face it, you're programmed to love that kind of stuff. Just because you don't want to do it in real life doesn't mean you don't enjoy the thrill of it in a video game.

You're probably not going to get the point I'm trying to convey. And that's ok, I was never good at explaining things. Just try to keep it a friendly debate and not call me "stupid." Do you do that to everybody that disagrees with you?

Yes that is exactly what I'm saying. For example, I don't think war is the answer to anything; but that doesn't mean I don't like watching it in a movie.
