ok here's an honest review

what we talkin about - WACK, hook, verses everything was wack about this song, it's not horrible but it's not a good intro track FOr sure..

thank you - okay song, overrated, i didn't really like it from first listen

DOA - dope song (old)

Run this town - dope song (old)

empire state of mind - it's good song but it's not as good as people are hyping it to be, i thought nas was gonna be on thsi so maybe my expectations were just too high

real as it gets - i know people have hated jeezy but i felt he did great on his verses...

on to the next one - LIKE WTF is jayz doing with these hooks, wackk.. verses aren't that bad, but i felt i already had heard all this from Off That, he's basically saying the same thing, shit get over it.. and dissing autotune again, are u kidding me, we're over that shit

a star is born - this is JAYZ, this is the jayz of blueprint 1, this is the jayz of black album... wowwww this gave me shivers! haha love how he shouted EVERYONE!!! WE FORMED RENEGADE, FUCKIN AWESOME, my favorite line.. holly shit.. this is an amazing song!!!! i'm not even exaggeratting...

venus vs mars - THE fuck is this bullshit, way too fuck up the mood after such a dope song..ok this isn't that bad but the fall between this song and the one before it is just too much, i knew it was gonna go down hill, but i expected him to take us down lightly! lol

already home - i was soo excited for kid cudi, but holy shit Hook was pathetic, jayz really needs to step up this hook shit..jayz did great with the verses but beat is really wack, the bass is too loud

hate - i'm not even gonna bother, i'ma act like this wasn't part of the album....

reminder - he sounds reallll bored on this track but still a decent track..

so ambitious - the beat and the title of the song, got my expectations REALLy high already so this better be sick..it's ok.

young forever - oh woww.. that's all i can say about this track...amazing

overall good album, same level as relapse

Wow this was the wackest Jay-Z album I've heard for sure. Nothing sounded good NOTHING besides DOA. Beats were on some space alien 2900 shit. What the fuck was he thinking? Seriously this album is so fucking bad, its beyond garbage. I've never heard beats as bad as these in my life before. Album didn't even sound Hip Hop. :confusion: Like I said beats were on some 2900 shit and the hooks like Tash pointed out, were just retarded. Wtf happened to the days when rappers used RAP BEATS? :confusion:

1-4/10 at max and I'm a Jay-Z fan. :shakehead:

Can't believe the reviews some of you gave this O_O

I wouldn't probably go as low, but this the closest review to my feelings. This had some highlights, but seemed so lazy and passionless. Like he was like "I'm Jay Z, i can try whatever in my music, and get slow my flow a bit, people will still call me the GOAT and by the CD". Not impressed overall.

Ok, listened to it all. It ain't shit but it ain't good at the moment either. It's very average. I like about half of the album but only half of that half are songs I'd bump a lot. I gotta give it more listens before I decide.

I figured most hardcore Jay Z fans wouldn't like this album because I liked it haha. I was never a fan of his music but liked this album a lot. I honestly don't like any other album of his so I guess I like the 2900 space alien beats lol.

Still listening to the album so far....its decent so far. I need some more listens though. Its my first time around.

Favorite tracks so far:

-Thank You
- Empire State of Mind
- Real As It Gets
- Venus vs. Mars

Still listening....its not the greatest Jay album but better than Kingdom Come and possibly better than American Gangster....

"Thought Shawty was the truth, found out she was a cheater,
we were supposed to Takeover, I caught her bumping Ether!" - Jay-Z, Venus vs. Mars (LMAO, HOT SHIT)

That's like saying fuck using a kick, its getting old, lets start using toms and replace it altogether. Tradition is tradition and you can't fuck with that. Try new things? what if they succeed critically and we start looking at rappers changing the style of rap, making it sound more pop just for the fuck of sales. Cause that's what's happening right now, there not trying new things in favor for the fans to keep things fresh, no there trying new things to sell. And I bet every real Jay-Z fan is disappointed from this album, because neither does it put it above anything he has done before, it also fails at making a Blueprint 3 after the first 2 classical Jay-Z albums. And right now nothing matters but the fact this album failed at attempting a Blueprint 3.

I just downloaded the album last night and gave it a couple of listens. IT's a very average album at best. I expected much more from Jay. My main problems with the album are the large amount of special guests, lack of any real clever or deep lyrics on most tracks, and Jay's usual style just isn't there on most tracks. I do agree with Ice_Scarred though these are the four best tracks on the album and the only four I can truly say I love:

Thank You (this song had a classic Jay feel to it. I'm feelin it. even the beat.)
Empire State of Mind (lyrics were good/decent at best but the hook and beat is amazing. although a little bit overrated, arguably: the best song on the album)
Real As It Gets (beat is fun to listen to. Jeezy's verses were actually fresh, but he kinda outshined Jay in this track. second best song on the album imo)
Venus vs. Mars (this song was classic Jay to me. loved all of the references and one-liners. "Fell for the ponzi scheme, damn shawty just Made-off." "Shawty like Pac, me Big Poppa, screaming hit em up, I’m screaming who shot ya!" haha song had good mix of humor and clever lyrics. third best song on the album)

Some notable songs:

Hate (weird song. very weird song. strange, but cool beat. but I can't help but find myself listening to this song. Kanye put too much of his style into the beat though. to the point where it soudns like a Kanye song and not a Jay song. I like how Kanye and Jay just go at it back and forth throughout the song. eh, sixth best song on the album)

Already Home (Kid Cudi always does great hooks. I dunno why people don't like it. Lyrically, I like the hook. the beat is also cool. deff. like this song although I actually wanted to hear Cudi spit a verse. eh, fifth best song on the album)

Reminder (Jay had me at the first few lines. this is classic Jay. def. feeling this song. fourth best song on the album)

May I please stress that "One To The Next One" is TOTAL SHIT. FUCK SWISS BEATZ. beat is annoying as hell (Even more annoying than "A Milli" although I can actually listen to that and like it) and lyrics are shit.

The rest of the songs are either shit or I need to listen to them more to get a better opinion. Overall, a 3-Star album at best. I could easily say this is the worst Jay-Z album to date, but Kingdom Come still comes to mind...

change isnt always a bad thing, id get bored of hip hop in a second if rappers didnt try n change things, create new concepts, arguements, subject matters, ideas etc.... u really think Jay-Z has changed stuff on this album to sell more?? lol thats the stupidest shit ever, i get the feeling he's hardly short on cash, he's making music the way he wants to make it, not to suit anyone elses needs

i'ma agree with Matz here... first of all ur main argument, you said he's doing it to get more sales? well i doubt jayz gives two fucks about more money, he constantly sells 3mil per album, he doesn't need to turn pop to sell that much... second if he keeps rapping about the same thing using the same beats then he'd be where EVERY fuckin underground rapper is, No where.. sure i like that music, but i can't listen to it 24/7, you need to be more diverse with your music... but i'm talking to the wrong guy, x-ray you only listen to rap, and specifically only hardcore rap.. therefore there's no convincing.
